Josephine drove around town all night thinking. She made it to Kevin�s house by daybreak and sat outside his house; debating whether to talk to him or not. After all, he did now about Howard being in love with Sunshine. She needed someone to talk to and Kevin was always there.
It was only six in the morning and the sun was just starting to come up. Kevin probably wasn�t up yet either. She just sat in her car and thought about everything that happened. How could her boyfriend still be in love with his ex-girlfriend? She happened to be her best friend. She was confused. Lonely. Heartbroken. Every feeling rolled into one.
What was she going to do? She loved Howard and Sunshine was like a sister. She needed to talk to someone immediately. She looked at Kevin�s front door and got out of her car. Why not? He always had answers. Even during the toughest situations. She walked up to the front door and just stood there.
What was she doing? How could Kevin help with this situation? Easy. He went thought it. It happened with Sunshine and Nickolas when they wanted to be together. But Sunshine doesn�t want to be with Howard. She wants Nickolas. Josephine wanted Howard. She always wanted Howard.
She took a deep breath then knocked on the door. She waited a minute and then went for a second knock. The door opened as she hit and saw Kevin standing there.
�Josephine, what are you doing here? It�s six in the morning.�
�Did I wake you?�
�Not at all; I was awake. Come in.� Josephine stepped inside and Kevin closed the door. �What are you doing here?�
�I needed someone to talk to.� They walked to the kitchen. �You always helped me out before.�
�I�m glad to help. Would you like some coffee? A cup of hot tea? Anything?�
�Tea�s fine.�
�So what�s the problem this time?� He went about making tea for Josephine and some coffee for himself.
�Sunn and Howie.�
�Oh.� He sighed. �What is it?�
�You already know, Kev.�
�So you do too.� Josephine nodded. �So who told you?�
�Actually I found out myself.�
�When?� He set a cup in front of her.
�Yesterday.� She went ahead and told Kevin the whole story of the events the day before; not leaving anything out. Kevin listened contently and Josephine said, �It really hurt me.�
�I�m sorry.�
�Sunnie spilled the beans after she found out that Howie didn�t tell me anything. She even told me they had sex.�
�They had sex?�
�That�s what she said. I believe her exact words were �Nick isn�t the only one I ever had sex with� and she looked directly at Howie. I was pissed that I slapped her across the face. I�m regretting it now. She�s my best friend.� She wiped a tear from her eye. �She even said Howie only wanted me for sex.�
�Howie loves you.�
�But not like he loves Sunn.�
�If Howie wanted to be with Sunn more than you, he would�ve stayed with you. He even had all those chances to get her back. But he didn�t, because he wanted to be with you.�
�I just don�t know what to do. The man I�m in love with is in love with his ex and they had sex. I never had sex with Nick.�
�Did Howie admit to it?�
�He said nothing about it.�
�So it�s either yes or no and I think its no. But to understand what really happened, you need to talk to him or both.�
�I�m just so confused. Howie tells me one thing and Sunn tells me the complete opposite.�
�All I can say to you is that Howie loves you and Sunn cherishes your friendship. The three of you need to sit down and talk about this. That�s the only way things get resolved.�
�How can I sit and talk to Sunn when she doesn�t want any friends? She doesn�t even want anyone happy, because she can�t be.�
�Why can�t she? She has everything she�s ever wanted. Wonderful friends, family, a great career and Nickolas. Everything a girl dreams about; including Nick.�
�Not everything. She doesn�t have everything anymore.�
�What are you talking about?�
�When Howie and I got back to the condo we found it trashed and Sunn out on the banister.�
�Is she all right?�
�Physically yes. Emotionally no.�
�How so?�
�She was drunk off two or more bottles of wine. Nick was there when we left, but gone when we got back.� Kevin listened closely. �To make a long story short, Nick drove her to drink by calling off the wedding.�
�He didn�t?�
�She gave the ring back.�
�What was he thinking? Why would he call off the wedding?�
�He didn�t tell her why. She really didn�t say anything about it.�
�Do you know where she is now?�
�She was at the condo when I left last night and Howie was with her of course.�
�He probably just wanted to make sure she didn�t do anything crazy. You know how Howie is.�
�Mr. Caring, always looking out for others; especially Sunn.�
�That�s not fair. Howie looks out for you too. He doesn�t want to see you hurt. That�s why he didn�t tell you about being in love with Sunshine.�
�Because it would break my heart.�
�Exactly. Sunshine�s your best friend. Don�t hate her, because of Howie. She didn�t make him fall in love with her, because she wanted Nickolas. They might have shared a great year together and maintain a great friendship, but she doesn�t want him back. She even told him that she can�t love him the way he loves her and the way he wants her to. You know Nick�s her life and Howie knows that.�
�I guess you�re right.�
�I am. Howie told me he�s not going to try to get Sunshine back.�
�That�s what he told Sunn too.�
�Do you believe him?�
�I don�t know.� She got up. �I heard him say he�s still in love with my best friend. How can I? It hurts m, because I love Howie so much and waited so long to be with him. Then this happens, ya know. I have no clue what to do.�
�Why don�t you start with talking to Sunn first?� She just looked at him. �She can assure you she doesn�t want Howie.�
�Can I think about it first?�
�If it�s what you want to do.�
�I have to.�
�Take your time.�
�Can I crash in one of your rooms? I didn�t sleep at all last night.�
�Sure; you can use my room.�
�Thanks�for listening and helping me.�
�I was glad to help.� He got up. �You can always come to me.� They hugged. �Now go get some sleep.�
Josephine didn�t say anything and just walked away. Kevin was right. Sunshine wasn�t to blame. She would talk to her when she got the chance. But right now she was going to get some sleep and worry about it all later.
