United Federation of Planets:
Coridan versus the Ithanites!

United Federation of Planets: Little Copper Ambassadors: Coridani or Ithanites?

Above: Copper-skinned aliens wearing Federation sashes even appeared briefly in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Okay, this was only fannish speculation, and (until Enterprise) a rather clever one: I once read about a fan's suggestion that these cute little guys, sometimes referred to as the "Little Copper Ambassadors", might be representatives of the (as yet in TOS) never-seen Coridan people, the subject of Star Trek: The Original Series' "Journey to Babel". It makes sense: Kirk's monologue about the plight of Coridan is heard over footage of these little guys helping themselves to the buffet on the Enterprise. Many years later, Coridan is mentioned briefly in The Next Generation episode "Sarek". But all has been revealed in the prequel series, Enterprise.

Above: When Manny Coto was planning the fourth season Star Trek: Enterprise episodes, "Demons" and "Terra Prime", he intended to have at least one copper ambassador make an appearance. When it proved too expensive, the character was replaced by an alien-looking Coridan Ambassador (above). But Coto had decided that the copper ambassadors were, in fact, Ithanites. According to the time-travelling Daniels, the race is not slated to join the UFP until the 26th century (Earth date), along with the Xindi and the Klingons.
