- Fan of Mexican & American wrestling growing up.
- Idol is his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr.
- Grew up in San Diego.
- Was presented with a mask and the name “Rey Misterio Jr.” by his uncle in 1992 in Tijuana, Mexico.
- Jumped to AAA at the age of 17 under the advice of Konnan.
- Began his AAA career under the name of "Super Nino"

eamed with Misterioso and Volador and lost to Psicosis, Heavy Metal & Jerry Estrada on August 28, 1993 at the LA Sports Arena in front of the largest card to watch a wrestling card in 22 years.
- Made his American PPV TV debut on “When Worlds Collide” on November 6, 1994 when he teamed with Heavy Metal and Latin Lover and lost to Fuerza Guerrera, Psicosis & Louie Spicolli.
- Teamed with Octagon & El Hijo del Santo and lost to Fuerza Guerrera, Psicosis & Juventud Guerrera in what many Mexicans say was one of the best six-man matches in Mexican history on April 30, 1995 in Guadalajara.
- Defeated Juventud Guerrera in 1996 in Mexico’s 1st-ever “Car vs Car” Match.
- Noticed by WCW Senior Vice President Eric Bishoff in June 1996 at the World Wrestling Peace Festival where he teamed with Ultimo Dragon to defeat Psicosis & Heavy Metal.
- Made his WCW debut on June 16th, 1996 at The Great American Bash in Baltimore, Maryland losing to WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Dean Malenko.

- Lost his mask in WCW in a "Hair vs Mask" match teaming with Konnan and losing to The Outsiders at Superbrawl IX on February 21st, 1999 at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California.
- Signed with the WWE in the Spring of 2002 and agreed to wrestle under the mask again.
- Defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. in his WWE televised and non-televised debuts.
