Considering the huge expenses associated with obtaining an university education, it is very important to do your homework before choosing a university. In addition, it important to have at least two choices (preferably three or four) due to limited enrolment in certain programs. After all, you don't want to find out that you were rejected to your only choice, and are now left hanging after all the application deadlines have passed.
STEP 1 Before looking at universities, you must have an idea of what your career goals are. Do you want to be a doctor, engineer, stock broker, lawyer, etc. STEP 2 Visit your school's Guidance Office, and refer
to a few university pamphlets. After an idea of what to expect, visit
the
RADS for tips and links to
all of Canada's universities.
See the special note about Magazine Ratings. STEP 3 Visit the university web sites; look for signs of their specialities. Not all universities are alike as some specialize in particular fields such as engineering while others take a more general approach. You should also check to see if the university have a co-op program. If you like what you see, e-mail the university's Registrar's or Admissions Office to request information concerning the programs you may be interested in. Don't be afraid of requesting information from several universities.
After all, they are businesses and want your money so they're very willing
to entice you.
