Gillian Anderson was born August 9, 1968, in Chigaco, Illinois to her parents Edward and Rosemary. Her family moved to London when she was just two years old. Gillian spent the next nine years there. Her family moved again to Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a poot student is school, but she auditioned for a local play on a whim, and got the part. From then on Gillian loved acting and studied acting first with the National Theater of Great Britain at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and then at the Goodman Theater School at Chicago's DePaul University, where she obtained her BFA degree. Gillian gained recognition for her off-Broadway performance in Alan Ayckborne's "Absent Friends." She also appeared in Christopher Hampton's "The Philanthropist," and more recently, took part in Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues." She has also stared in the feature films: "House of Mirth," "The X-Files," "Playing By Heart," "The Mighty," and "Hellcab." Gillian also wrote and directed "All Things," an episode of The X-Files, airing in the seventh season. Gillian has a younger brother named Aaron and a younger sister named Zoe. She married Clyde Klotz, an art director on The X-Files, on January 1, 1994. On September 25, 1994, Gillian gave birth to a baby girl named Piper Maru. Gillian and Clyde divorced in 1997.
