Another Lake Macquarie Coastal and Wetlands Alliance event in our campaign to save Belmont Wetlands.

The rally took place on 16 June 2001. The Alliance publicity campaign resulted in a large group of residents coming together in the paved area outside Charlestown Square shopping centre.

Elvis entertained the gathering crowd, then speeches from the Alliance and supportive politicians followed.

Bagpipe players led the protesters through the streets of Charlestown to the office of the local MP. Protesters placed small flags on the lawn of his electoral office with the message that Belmont Wetlands should be returned to public ownership and not turned into yet another anonymous suburb.
