You Were There
I'm writing this poem here today, For my stepdad that passed away. I'm very thankful to God above, Because you and Mom fell in love. You then had seven kids to raise, Since my father had passed away. It must have been so hard to cope, With seven kids that weren't your own. And try real hard to replace, A father that had passed away. It wasn't easy, this I know, It must have been a heavy load. But then the Lord blessed us again, We once were seven, then were ten! I could always call you to help me out. You were always there, without a doubt. You were at our side that day, When the Lord took mom away. Until the cancer took her life, You stayed right there by her side. I want to thank you for all those years That you shared with me and my tears. You've given me refuge in your home, When I was down and all alone. For even after I was grown, You treated me just like your own. So now you're both with God above, To share eternally your love. Now I want the world to know, I really loved you, Edgar Poe.
