THE SOCIETY OF THE ENLIGHTENED
ACKER KINNEY (ASA – DOCTOR) – The doctor and chosen emissary for the Society of the Enlightened, Acker is a recently Awoken Knight. This 43-year-old Ex-Special Forces Medic in the Marines has had a hard run at things. His 25 years in the military ended with a bang when a unit he was traveling with through the “Badlands” of the Middle East was attacked by a group of terrorists. Left for dead and short an arm, Acker is rescued and later joins the Society, becoming their emissary in the coming conflicts with the various factions rising from the woodwork. Personally, Acker is an orphan, his parents having died one the 20th anniversary of the original 9/11 attacks when Al-Munajj, the new leader of al-Qaeda, coordinated the single largest terrorist assault in the world’s history, leaving thousands dead and the world in turmoil. He gave his life to the Corps and will lay his life on the line for the right cause. As a member of the Society and with countless lifetimes of experience under his belt, he’s as likely to talk something through as shoot first, ask questions later. Don’t catch him on a bad day. He treats his fellow knights like his support with the exception of Abigail, who he has a complicated relationship. Apparently, in several of their past lives they were married. In the last, he died decades before she did, leaving her alone, anxiously awaiting his return to the fold. Physically, he’s a striking man with his grayish-blond hair and blue-gray eyes. At just over 6’4” tall and 240 lbs of muscle, he’s strong and handsome, intimidating when you cross him, but supportive if you need him at your side. The roadside bomb left him scarred and short an arm, which is replaced by cybernetics. His face has two distinct scars on them, one from beneath his right eye to a couple of inches below his left and another from his lower lip down to the right side of his chin. His primary wardrobe when not in combat gear is dark blue jeans, an A-Shirt, and often a long-sleeved shirt, open in the front and sleeves rolled up, showing his cybernetic arm and scars.
ABIGAIL LATTON (ABIMAEL – MY FATHER IS GOD) – The Priest for the Society of the Enlightened, Abigail, when she’s not acting on behalf of the Society, is a 19-year-old counselor at a Catholic church in France. She spends a considerable amount of time in the church and is extremely dedicated to her believes. Orphaned at 4 by an agent of the Den Malignity, the church has watched over her while the Society guided her education in secret, placing an agent in the church’s midst to train and protect her. At sixteen, she was Awoken, given access to her lifetimes of knowledge and control of the Holy Light, enabling her to perform acts as simple as creating illumination to destroying those things deemed unholy. She’s a hard woman, having cut off most of her emotions to help her cope with the loss of her parents and the death that tends to surround those in the Society. Her only hope is in the form of Acker, her love from former lives, but how will Acker, 43 in this life, treat someone young enough to be his daughter? Physically, Abigail is 5’10” tall, 150 lbs, lean and deadly with black hair and dark blue eyes. As with many of the Knights, she’s deceptively strong and her constant physical, mental, and spiritual training has prepared her for anything (except love). She tends to wear more conservative clothes, long dresses when she’s at the church and full length pants and long buttoned up shirts. Her weapon of choice is mystical, but she’s capable with anything with a blade and pistols.
GABRIEL HARTMANN (GABRIEL – STRONG MAN OF GOD) – The Warrior for the Society of the Enlightened. Gabriel is a 32-year-old true African man, born and raised in a small village deep in Nigeria which he spent his early life defending. He has a kindness in him despite the violence of his youth, but he is unyielding in his wrath once incurred. He the master of dozens of weapons, from guns, to swords, to hands, and is an amazing tactician. He spent a few years going through a culture shock of sorts, but when he was Awoken, all of those problems passed him by. As a Knight, his gifts are physical, commanding huge reserves of physical strength that, when tapped, can both drop the demonic agents of the Den-Malignity and protect him from physical harm. Physically, he’s 6’7” tall and over 400 lbs of solid muscle. He has blocky features, but a handsome face, and one pale scar on the left side of his neck where someone tried to slit his throat a handful of years ago. He tends to wear loose fitting clothing, white linen pants, and simple t-shirts or open necked long-sleeved shirts. When he can get away with it, he tries to have a few weapons at his disposal, pistols, rifles, throwing knives and his pride and joy, a long sword reminiscent of a machete.
ZEPHAN JOBEN (CEPHAS – ROCK) – The Protector for the Society of the Enlightened, Zephan is a 26-year-old Israeli, born and raised. Zephan watched all of this friends die when a bomb tore apart his dorm while in college and has never gotten past that day. At the end of the day, Zephan just wants to help people, mostly those who can’t protect themselves. As a Knight, he is one of the groups main spell-weavers, having spent lifetimes practicing the mystical arts in various forms, though in this life he mainly focuses those spells on protecting his friends, innocent bystanders, and lastly himself. Physically, he’s 5’9” tall, 150 lbs with medium length brown hair and eyes. He’s very tan from plenty of time in the sun, has angular features and kind eyes. He tends to wear long jackets, almost looking like traditional robes, but open over whatever clothes he happens to be wearing from khakis to jeans. He typically doesn’t carry weapons, primarily relying on spells, but he does carry a backpack on him for easy access to any number of “trinkets”.
DAYTON KEONI (DATHAN – FOUNTAIN) – The Thinker for the Society of the Enlightened, Dayton is a 29-year-old half-Polynesian, half-Japanese man from Hawaii. He always seems to be at peace, having thought of dozens of possibilities of what could happen next and tends to be prepared for all of them. His father was a Buddhist monk who left Kyoto and the order to go to Hawaii, seeking peace from his own inner turmoil. There, Dayton’s father found a wife and a life. His son was born with the same turmoil, which was finally quenched when he was Awoken as a Knight. He is trained in Shaolin Kung-Fu and Wushu, better with a gun than a blade, better with his hands than both. His abilities as a Knight include countless lifetimes of knowledge, but also a variety of skills from medicine to Philosophy, and various physical feats, though not quite classified as magic, are incredibly impressive. Physically, Dayton is a small statured 5’4, 120 lbs with thin, ropy muscles. He has long dark brown hair, semi-coarse, and a slight goatee. He wears normal clothes of various styles, from subtle Hawaiian shirts to opened in the front dress shirts, always loose enough so not to inhibit his movement.
THE DEN-MALIGNITY
EMLIN GUNDULA (ELAM – HIDDEN) – The Hidden in the Den-Malignity, Emlin is in her early twenties. She is one of the assassins in the Den, able to hide herself using various demonic spells at her disposal. Her favorite of these is an ink-black skin which crawls over her for protection, with orange-red glowing eyes to help her see in the dark, sharp teeth and talons to help her dispatch her victims, and increased strength. Who knows what curse lead the human members of the Den to their fate, but they relish in the blood and violence of their occupations, especially the young Emlin. Her first assignment? To kill the uninitiated Acker Kinney. Physically, Emlin is 5’8” tall and built as though she’s only around 120 lbs, lithe and deadly.
THE BLOOD LORD
THE BLOOD LORD – Not a vampire, not a werewolf, not a zombie, so what is he doing at the head of their faction and who else amongst the factions is he tied to? He is a powerful creature, primarily supernatural in nature, super-strong, fast, and (literally) can kill you with a glance if he wants, but he prefers it up close and personal when it comes down to it. He's generally humanoid in shape, but is exceptionally tall, 6'9”, and weighs over 450 lbs of densely packed muscle, and is very top heavy. Where he goes, the dead rise. Within a 200 mile radius of his lair, zombies roam. They may not be the smartest of minions, but they make up for it in shear numbers. As for his appearance, his skin is red, like a sunburn, not like a demon. His face looks like a series of dried and cracked blisters, but somehow he makes it look good. He has no hair, red eyes, pointed teeth (all of them) and has swept back and pointed ears, just about as long as an elf's. As far as clothing is concerned, he typically wears long pants and a long open jacket over his upper torso, his muscled, cracked red skin visible beneath. Depending on his mood, his expression can flip between hospitable and homicidal. He awoke in the modern world surprised by the changes to it and him... He wasn't always the Blood Lord and his history will surprise you.
THE SKRATTA
RUGER BRANWEN (THE SKRATTA EMISSARY) – Emissary for the Skratta King, Rurger is a cast-off from society. Where once he was a homeless man, addicted to drugs, alcohol, and chocolate, now he lives in a luxurious cave, still with the same addictions. Ruger is large, smelly, scarred, blemished, crass man, capable of levels of indecency once reserved for Hollywood celebrities. His title as emissary affords him a certain amount of luxury, he is permitted to bath when visiting enemy factions. Ruger is 5'3” tall, 200 lbs of sludge, tan, pock-marked skin, thick beard, and long hair covering his scarred face. He was the worst the London streets could offer, and now he works for a King. His clothes would be nice if they fit and were washed even once.
THE MIND
LORA STYRENE (THE MIND EMISSARY) – Emissary for the Mind. As a psychic, most would expect Lora to meditate and work to keep her body and mind free of impure thoughts and action. Lora prescribes to a different method of exploration, however. Experiences are what get Lora closer to the Mind whether it be from tattoos, piercings, drugs, alcohol, or other exploits. Covered arm to arm in various tattoos from Hindu gods to tarot cards, flowery fields to bloody massacres, Lora is everything you would not expect from an emissary, but she is a powerful psychic and capable of dropping an opponent with a blast from her mind as easily as a kick to the crotch. She's 5'3” tall, 110 lbs of pure mental power, shaved head except for a sideways mohawk, pink and purple this week, and piercing lavender colored eyes.
