The Gaia Project

Welcome to The Gaia Project

What can one person do to reduce pollution, humanity's wasteful habits, and the general disregard for the state of our planet (Gaia) ?  As individuals we feel powerless - whatever we can do as an individual doesn't seem to be much at all, and unless we are politically active we seem to be one voice crying in the wilderness.

The Gaia Project is for those lonely voices - those who try and recycle - and join in with a local clean up, often thinking "I should be doing more, but what can one person do?"

Our philosophy is that a whole lot of just one persons, all doing their little bit can collectively start to make a difference.  The difference may be small at first, but as more people join the Gaia Project, the difference will grow.

It is not the intention of the Gaia Project to campaign against Industry, or become loudly political - there are plenty of other organizations that are already doing that.

Our aim is to invite Members from all walks of life to join. People who don't have the time, energy, finance etc to do something big, but who are willing to do their own little bit to help.

All we ask of Members is that they commit to the ideals of the group and participate in each Mini Project to the fullest of their ability.  For examples of Mini Projects see Mini Projects page

In addition to the participating in the Mini Projects it is expected that each Member does their best to consciously recycle whatever they can, minimize wastage as much as possible, and actively seek environmental projects that they can suggest to their Local Chapter

Members are requested to join the Mailing List and/or Yahoo Club so that they are able to keep up to date with projects and initiatives.

Finally Members may elect to participate in any Major Projects that are running.  This is not compulsory, but for those Members who want to be more proactive, or suddenly find themselves with some spare time or resources, and an urge to do something more for Gaia.

We are actively seeking Membership from groups and organizations such as schools and industry. We ask that their contribution to the Project be to disseminate information through their networks, and encourage their own members to participate in mini projects. We wish to honour them in our Schools, Industry, and Other Groups pages for their contribution to our cause, and to highlight efforts that they are making toward improving our planet.

It is intended that the Gaia Project be a non profit group. It is not our intention to be actively seeking funds, or participating in fundraising activities. we would prefer to direct our time and attention to our projects.  As such, there are no Membership dues. Our success relies on Membership Numbers all actively participating in mini and Major Projects.

All activities are voluntary, the website and mailing list are maintained by Members on a voluntary basis, as are the Chapters.
