CHAPTER ELEVEN
*3 hours later*

"She sure does live this Abbott kid a lot," the doctor said.

"Why do you say that?" the second doctor asked.

"Because she's risking her life to save his."

"That is true love," the nurse said as she sterilized the surgical equiptment.

"I hope this guy knows exactly how much she loves him," doctor number 2 said.

"Well, I know that he loves her," the nurse said. "In his unconcious state, he still muttered that
he loves her."

"Get this to surgical room number 4, NOW!" the doctor order as he handed over the kidney to
one of the nurses.

"Her blood pressure is dropping."

"Her heart rate is slowing!"

"OMG!!!" the doctor screamed. "She's clotting!"

"Get the crash cart now as a safety precaution!" the nurse screamed to an orderly.

"Come on, Mac! Your not gonna die on us!"

"What're her vitals?" the second doctor asked.

"We're losing her!" the nurse screamed as she prepped the crash cart paddles.

"So?" Ashley asked anxiously. "How's my baby brother?"

"We are about to complete the transplant," the nurse smiled.

They hugged each other happily.

"What about Mackenzie?" Jack asked, still smiling.

The nurse looked grave.

"What is it, what's wrong?" John asked.

The doctor came out of the surgical room looking grave. He was actually shaking.
CHAPTER TWELVE
"Doctor?" Ashley asked frantically. "How's Mac?"

"Critical," the doctor said. "We almost lost her. We managed to bring her back, but-"

"Is she gonna be OK?" John asked quickly.

"Yes. We're almost positive she'll be alright, but given the circumstances, I won't say that it's
a definate thing," the doctor said.

"Why?" Jack questioned.

"her body was working over time to keep her alive and semi concious. Because of that, we had to
put her in an induced coma to give her body a chance to heal itself quicker and more fully. Plus,
the chances of a full recovery become greater as well," the doctor explained.

"So, what're her chances of a full recovery now?" Ashley asked.

"75%," the doctor said. "Without the induced coma, her chances were about 30%."
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
*The next day*

"He should wake up momentarily," the nurse smiled at the Abbott's.

"Thank you," John smiled.

"Well, he's alive. He's gonna get better," Jack said.

"He's gonna be OK, "Ashley smiled emotionally. "And it's all thanks to Mackenzie."

"Yeah," John said. "And once she gets better, and I'm sure she will, I've got a feeling that Billy's
gonna make an honest woman out of her."

"Yes," Jack smiled. "We Abbott men like to keep our women on their toes. Keep surprising them."

"Not to mention that Abbott men also have HUGE ego's," Ashley cracked.

"That we do," Billy said hoarsely as he came back in to conciousness. "So when do I get sprung
from this joint?"

"Billy, there's something that you need to know," John said once all the hoop la of Billy waking up
had died down.

"OK, shoot," Billy said.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"Well?" Billy asked. "What is it that I need to know?"

"IT's about Mackenzie," John started, "she-"

"Mac?!?!?!" Billy cried. "What's wrong? What happened?"

"Billy," Ashley soothed, "you have to stay calm."

For the first time, he surveyed his surroundings.

"What happened? Why am I here? And what does this have to do with Mac?" Billy asked.

"You had an accident last night. You almost died," Jack said, regretting what pain his little brother
was about to go through.

"You needed a kidney transplant, but because your blood type is so rare, it was almost impossible.
Your accident was broadcast on the news. Shortly after that, you flat lined. Thats where Mackenzie comes in. Turns out that she was able to donate her kidney. She saved your life,"
John answered.

"She did?" Billy asked in awe. "Where is she? I have to see her. I have too!"

"Billy," Ashley started, "you can't see her."

"WHY NOT?!" Billy asked, the anger now errupting from him. "Why can't I see my precious Mac?"

"While the doctors were transfereing her kidney, she flat lined-"

"OH GOD!" Billy cried. "I lost her for good this time! She's dead because of me!"

"Billy," Ashley said, "the doctor's revived her. They are hopeful that she will wake up. She has a
good chance that she will be good as new."

"How good a chance?" Billy asked, not knowing whether or not he wanted to hear the answer.

"75%," Jack answered.

"WHAT?!" Billy shouted. "Mackenzie's family finances this hospital. It is ranked in the top five hospitals in the country and she only has a 75% chance?"

"Billy, they did the best they could. Without it, she would only have had a 30% chance," John said, trying to calm his son down.

"That's better than nothing," Billy said quietly, "I guess anyway."
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
*2 hours later*

Ashley, Jack and John had left the hospital because visiting hours were over and Billy needed his
rest . . . but he wasn't getting it.

He was having a fitful sleep because he was so worried about Mac. He buzzed the nurse to come
and pull the drapes around his bed so that no light could or would come in, thus allowing him some rest.

None came. The door opened.

"I wish we didn't have to put her in here," the nurse said. "She was resting comfortably. It's a shame we had to disturb her."

"Why is she here?" the second nurse asked.

"She donated a kidney to another patient here at the hospital."

The door closed behind the nurses.

Billy grabbed the closest thing to the bed that he could reach, which happened to be a loose bar from his bed. He pulled the curtain so it would expose the person in the bed next to him. It broke
his heart. A tear ran down his face. "Mac."
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
"Mac," Billy whispered. "Why would you do this to yourself? I love you more than life itself . . .
don't you know that I would rather die than see you like this? I would give my life to spare you the
pain that your in right now," another tear ran down his face. "You have to wake up. I have to
see you smile again and hear your laugh."

Billy just looked at Mac.

"I don't blame you. I know that you were just a little girl when everything went wrong for you. I just wish that you would have told me before you left. I would have gone with you. We could have had the life that we had dreamed of. We still can, I just wish that you weren't alone," Billy
was on the verge of major tears now. "Who am I kidding? A woman as beautiful as you probably
has a husband. At least a steady boyfriend out there somewhere."

Even though he hadn't been able to get out of bed, Billy blew a kiss to Mac.

"Good night my love," Billy smiled as he drifted off to sleep.

"Hows my baby?" Brock asked as he and Katherine came up to the nurses station. (They had
been in India and as soon as they found out, they took the first flight home).

"Your daughter should be fine, Mr. Reynolds," the nurse smiled at the concearned father.
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
*5 days later*

"So, are yo ready to be released?' Ashley asked Billy.

"Yeah," Billy smiled half-heartedly. "I mean, the food leaves something to be desired."

"That it does," John laughed.

"But?" Jack asked knowing that there was more to his little brothers reluctance to go home.

"I don't want to leave Mac," Billy sighed. "I lost her five years ago and I'll be damned if I lose her
again."

"You never lost her, Billy," Katherine said as she and Brock entered the room.

"Pardon me?" Billy asked, dumfounded.

"She's been in California for the past 5 years. She wrote us all the time. She always told us that
she wasn't over you. She hasn't been on a date. I never tried to track her down because she
asked us not too," Katherine explained.

"That's it," Billy smiled. "Mac and I were destined to be together. Nothing will stop us now."
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
"When will she wake up?" Billy asked the nurse as he held Mac's hand.

"Anytime now," the nurse answered. "She should be OK. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't
be this sure, but you'd be amazed by the power of love."

The nurse left the room just as Katherine, Brock, Ashley, Jack and John came back in. Each were
holding a drink.

"Here Billy," Ashley smiled as she held a cup of coffee out for him to take.

"Thanks, Ash," Billy smiled.

For the next few hours, the six people sat around Mac's bed talking about memories. All secretly
praying for Mac to wake up soon and be alright.

*knock, knock*

"I was told that Mackenzie Browning was in this room," Jenn said as she lead a little boy in to the
room.

"Mommy!" the little boy shouted happily as he saw his mother lying in the hospital bed.

Everyone's jaws dropped. *Mommy?!* they all thought. Everyone also saw the resemblence between Billy and the little boy
CHAPTER NINETEEN
Billy picked up his jaw from the floor. *This little boy has to be mine. He looks so much like me
when I was his age. Same hair, same build. He even looks about the right age for him to be mine.*

"Come here, Champ," Billy said, already feeling the bond deepen for this little boy. He was sure that over time, the bond would become even stronger.

The boy came over and climbed on Billy's lap, looking at his mother in awe.

For the first time, Jenn took a look at Billy.

"You must be Billy Abbott," Jenn smiled as she stuck out her hand. "Jennifer Thomas."

"Nice to meet you," Billy smiled as he used his one free hand and shook hers. "How did you know who I was?"

"Mac's told me stories and shown me pictures of you. Of all of you. Forgive me, but I can't seem
to remember your names," Jenn apologized.

"Why don't we get some coffee and leave these three alone?" Ashley suggested.

Everyone left, leaving on the little boy, Billy and Mac in the room.
CHAPTER TWENTY
"How long have you known my Mommy?" the little boy asked.

"About six years," Billy smiled. "My name is-"

"Billy," the little boy finished. "My mommy showed me pictures and told me stories about you.
My name is Will."

"Really?" Billy was surprised. "My full name is William Foster Abbott."

"I have a puppy named Foster," Will said.

"How old are you?" Billy asked.

"Well, how old are you?" Will asked.

"As old as your mommy. A little older, actually," Billy smiled. "You?"

"Amost 5!" Will stated proudly, holding up 5 fingers. "Is my mommy going to be OK?"

"Yeah," Billy smiled. "You know why?"

"Why?"

"Because we both love her very much. And we both need her," Billy smiled.

Will launched himself into Billy's arms and held on for dear life.
