Freedom & The Law

"The law will never make men free; it is men who have got to make the law free.
They are the lovers of law and order, who observe the law when the government breaks it."
(Henry David Thoreau, Slavery in Massachusetts)

My preferred view would be to consider human rights as the legitimate child of Freedom and Law. Human rights should rightfully put freedom into the legal framework and provide all the essential rights of a person and people. There is much said about human rights elsewhere - academic perspectives, legal perspectives and people perspectives are crowded into these pages.

Human rights means freedom in every sense, physical freedom, intellectual freedom, emotional freedom, and most importantly spiritual freedom. Since time immemorial, human beings have strived to rid of the shackles of restraint and control. Throughout history, there were (and still are) the insane and the power crazy who seek world domination through politics, economics and social constraints.

Thankfully, there are also the "freedom fighters", who stand up against tyranny and protect the weak, whose rights have been abused and whose freedoms have been mocked. These "freedom fighters" are individuals, human rights organisations, and governments even, who understand and hope to implement justice and fairness for all human beings. They are the bravehearts, the nelson mandelas, the martin luther kings and Amnesty's of the world.
