September, 2009 / volume 71
Well, I finally joined Facebook. I've thought about it for a while, but I never knew what I would do on it. I'm not the kind of person who shares my every thought or action with the world (except in a fictional context). But Facebook is fun. I get to make snide comments on other people's postings and keep in touch with people far away in short, little, postcard-like notes.
We've also got lots of fires out here, as I'm sure you've seen on the news. None of the four fires are near me, but I do have a couple friends, whose homes are a little too close for comfort. And there is a hurricane heading up through Baja California. We don't get hurricanes in Los Angeles, but by the time this weather front gets here, we should get some much needed rain. At least, I hope so.
I've had a very productive spring and summer this year. I finished a brand new screenplay, Copses and Corpses, with my friend and collaborator Travis Pike. I've also written a new draft of my screenplay, Tea Smugglers, and am currently working on a rewrite of the novel version of Tea Smugglers. And I'm engaged in a new stage play, with a working title of Fealty. It's a love story about an arranged marriage between an Angle princess and a Saxon nobleman. This fall appears to be bringing some new avenues to selling one of my many scripts.
Speaking of new avenues, my friend, Travis Pike, is marketing a film his father, James Pike, made back in the early 60s, called Demo Derby. It's a terrifically fun short movie on DVD about a demolition derby race. You can check it out at:

Travis also produced a delightful documentary about an amateur opera company here in Los Angeles entitled Volunteers for Verdi. You can check that out at:

Either DVD would make a terrific Christmas present. I'll have a couple more suggestions next month for Christmas presents from friends of mine.
"Story 1" shows what teddy bears think when humans get angry in Rosemary Potatoes & the Tantrum.
"Story 2" retells the true story of a friends' unusual family dog, in Panda at Large.
This month's "Poem" is about the joys of seizing the moment in Spontaneity.
If you enjoy this web site, please tell your friends and acquaintances. I'm always interested in increasing my circulation. I am also constantly updating my list of names to contact each month with a reminder that the new edition is up and ready to enjoy. Please let me know if you want to be on the list at [email protected]. If I am presently contacting you, and you would prefer I didn't, again, just drop me a line.
Plotting my next trip.
