MY VISION Goal
TECHNOLOGY

In Teaching and Learning with Multimedia, a class at Lesley University, I was required to collaborate with two other classmates to create a non-linear presentation about multiple intelligences, which allowed the audience to select multiple pathways through the presentation fitting the users needs. This presentation also had to be planned out with your assigned classmates.

CHARACTER OBSERVATION Artifact

The following artifact is a multimedia collaborative, which was done using MS Powerpoint.

This project includes audio and requires an internet connection for parts of the presentation if you have it available.

Creating this MS PowerPoint presentation with two other classmates was very challenging because we were interacting over the Internet and were in a different time zone with one student, so the coordination of time was a major issue. This project required someone to take the lead and organize a schedule, divide the work and maintain constant communication amongst all parties. Our group came across some snags when one of it's members was in a different time zone, and encountered computer virus difficulties that resulted in the other group members making executive decisions about the path to take with the project.

The artifact above about multiple intelligences shows how with good leadership, communication and collaboration amongst all its members, a unified work can be accomplished. In this artifact, delegation was done where one person created the skeleton and navigation in MS PowerPoint, another person set a schedule for the group to check-in with one another. This person followed through if someone was missing via email, the phone, Instant Messenger (IM) and the instructor. Members gave feedback about their own work as well as on the entire piece.

During this project I learned that working collaboratively with others takes a lot of communication and flexibility from everyone. You must be firm and honest with your decisions and advice. I also learned that when working collaboratively, you have to not be an individual but a team. When working collaboratively over the Internet, I also learned that you couldn’t assume all parties have the same software and computer type, so again communication is important.

In regards to the other element in the standard, the navigation, this presentation didn't have any dead ends and allowed users to choose their own path both at the beginning through hyperlinking in the table of contents, bottom navigation links and access back to the main page.

As a goal for the future I would continue to make sure all avenues of communication are available like we did in this case and to always keep an open mind because others may see a different perspective that you may have never thought of where all can benefit.
