Health
Program |
The
Mangyans do not need the latest craze in dieting or losing
weight. Proper nutrition and good health is all they require.
The Mangyans of Nangka, Abra de Ilog need the basic knowledge
in health and nutrition to be able to survive the harsh conditions
of the mountains and the ever present threat of malnutrition
and illnesses notably 'malaria' and 'parasitism'. Malnutrition
among children is eveident when they started walking and stopped
breast feeding. Cassava, corn and vegetable constitute their
daily diet. Protein which is important in growth and development
is obviously lacking in a regular Mangyan meal. Malnutrition
and illnesses create a vicious cycle that need to be addressed
and mass information dissemination is one of our strategy
in breaking this cycle. Feeding program for the malnourished.
A health center equipped with adequate medical supplies and
a full-time health worker are what we hoping to have, and
a physician's regular visit to the community on a regular
basis is of utmost importance.

OSY
On School Youth program or Education / Literacy Program |
Another
evident problem of the mangyans is illiteracy. They were unable
to go to school from the start hence very few of them know how to
read and write. Now, they dream of educating their kids but school
facilities in their community is evidently lacking, aside from the
fact that schools available are far from the abodes of these people.
It is our vision to establish pre-school and elementary school in
their community, then send them later to public high school and
colleges in the town. We will provide scholarship for them. Adult
mangyans are also our concern, illiteracy rate is almost 100% .
We will also establish a non-formal school for mangyan youth and
adults in partnership with the government program. Education is
of major importance to help them be developed in all areas of life.
Progressive
Livelihood Program |
The
Mangyans of Nangka used to own land passed down to them through
many generations. Because of ignorance, these properties were
taken from them without even a fight. This resulted to a nomadic
lifestyle, they moved from one place to another in search
of livelihood. They consume what is available and move as
needed. This form of lifestyle has created a negative impact
to the culture of the Mangyans as a whole. Some are even hired
as helpers, farmworkers, carpenters and miners on a very minimal
salary, not even enough to feed the whole family. The Mangyans
are good hunters and farmers by nature. We envision to provide
the community a tract of land which they can call their own.
Alongside with that, we will provide technical know-how in
farming, animal raising, vegetable gardening among others,
to create a self-supporting community and even sell some of
their produce to nearby towns. We currently have a small piggery
and vegetable gardening projects in cooperation with our partner
local church.

Evangelism/Discipleship
Program or Mangyan Church Planting Program |
Development
will never be complete without attending to spiritual needs because
the Mangyans, like us, are souls in need of a Savior. They worship
nature and ancestral spirits. It is our vision to plant local Christian
churches in different Mangyan communities. Very few Tagalog Pastors
and missionaries stay in their areas. The Mangyans want to hear
the Gospel though it isn't new to them. Some have already preached
to them but were not able to follow-up them in their spiritual growth
so they could multiply and make disciples of all Mangyan communities.
In fact, one Mangyan community made a request to a short-term missionary
who preceded our ministry to teach them how to read so they can
read the Bible and asked him to send somebody who will help them
grow in their spiritual lives. They want to learn of God's love.
Some even want their children to become Pastors and missionaries.

Teknotropheo's
mission focused primarily on the Great Commision of our Lord
Jesus Christ in Matthew 28: 19-20 .... "to go
and make disciples of all nations" .... which includes
tribal nation like the Mangyan tribe of Abra de Ilog, Occidental
Mindoro, Philippines. Matthew 9:37 which says that
the harvest is plentiful but with few laborers inspired us
to go to the harvestfield as laborers. God led us to the harvest
field among the Mangyan tribe. Some of them were reached by
the gospel of Jesus Christ around 15 years ago but were not
followed-up in their spiritual growth and socio-economic growth.
In our first Christmas mission, we conducted evangelistic
meeting with JESUS film showing in one mangyan community where
a cult religion was being established. This activity resulted
to 40 nos. of mangyans and a Tekno volunteer who accepted
our Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is truly
our goal to let people know who Jesus Christ is in their lives,
not only the mangyans but also the volunteers who join us.
The cults are active also in their mission of church planting.
There are very, very few Christian churches in Mangyan communities
of Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. Hence, it is the vision
of Teknotropheo to help planting churhes in different Mangyan
communities.
Teknotropheo
is conducting monthly
evangelistic-medical mission and feeding program since
March 1998. We distribute goods like clothes, hygiene products,
slippers, etc. in all of our mission trips. Volunteers of
different profession such as Physicians, Dentists, Nurses,
Accountants, Computer Programmers & other fields join us each
month. Our activities includes medical, dental services, feeding
of kids, health/hygiene training, fellowship and sharing of
God's Word in the Bible for kids and adults, film showing,
devotional time and re-creation activities for volunteers.
One Christmas day, we brought Jesus film in Tagalog and 40
Mangyans received the Lord Jesus Christ. We plan to continue
bringing Christian films in Tagalog as a way of sharing the
gospel to them and some visual aids because they are illiterate,
we need visual aids to share God's Word to them.
