| Must be the smallest Victorian
fort in the country.
Built in 1856 in the grounds of Osborne house. It was constructed as a play thing for Queen Victoria's children and the barracks added in 1860. Miniature bricks were specially made on the Estate for the barracks. The fort also has a drawbridge, earthworks, flagpole and cannon. Prince Arthur who helped to build the fort grew up to be a Field Marshall in the Army. The children also had a swiss cottage built for them , a big wendy house! |
