The Engine

Hythe Pier
Southampton Water
Hythe pier narrow gauge engine
One of engines at the narrow gauge Hythe pier railway. Standing at the pier head station on a summer evening in 2000. It is a first world war Ex- mustard gas factory engine from Avonmouth. Originally the company purchased three of these Brush built 100V battery engines but dismantled one for spares.
It was converted  to third rail 200v for use on the pier, it now runs on 240V.
