Tallgums GC News:
The first ever Tallgums GC Annual Championship will be held over 3 weekends in December. Following a good year by all of the 9 members of TGC, the members decided to have an annual championship starting as of this year. The scores recorded throughout various weekend competition formats will not affect anyone in the championships. Handicaps may be modified in the championships but are not counted towards the score of what you shoot.
The Championships will consist of 4 rounds of Strokeplay . The winner of the Championship will be the lowest scoring person of the 4 rounds of Strokeplay & will take home the $200 first prize. The entire tournaments prize money is a whopping $810 (35% of all Greenfees this year), mostly funds from green fees throughout the year. Each Participant will receive a gift pack valued at $15 as well as 3 rounds of free golf at Tallgums.
The greens will be fast, with the Greenkeeper (Golfking Isaac) wanting them to play around 9 but willing to accept anything higher than 8 on the stimpmeter. Members have agreed with the speed, but will not worry if the weather effects.
R4 Review:
What a Round!
"Wedge" Jones had an excellent round of 44 (A Round that is tied by now
several players for the course record). Jones had the outright lead after
the second hole following the only ace during the tournament & a birdie from
4 feet. The best feat during the entire tournament came from Jone's fourth
round following a bogey. He's feat was a 7 hole of birdie, birdie, birdie
,birdie ,par ,birdie, birdie. The heat was on Golfking Isaac & One of the
local's finest players Johnny Allen. On the 70th hole, both Isaac & Jones
were tied for the lead at 27 under par, but Isaac fell back with a double
bogey, but gained back a stroke on the final hole, holing a 12 footer birdie
putt to place second one stroke off the lead.
Johnny Allen with his expertise (plays 2-3 times a week at local courses) could only manage a closing 47 following 7 birdies & 11 pars. Johnny Allen, despite a close loss had only 1 bogey in the entire 72 holes, followed by three held by Golfking Isaac & Steven Winkler.
Half the field managed fine rounds while the other half were not as lucky, mainly due to fast greens with the warm weather & little rain.
As I look back on our first ever "major" event at Tallgums it brings back great memories. Pondering over simple putts while managing our Fine Australian Beers was a task, but like myself not as big as drinker as some, I could manage a good round under par with 2 or 3 beers while Johnny Allen could drink at least 10 or so beers & still play good.
The Maintenance will take an ease on the green & the tee will take a healing process, although with a bigger tee & better repair process over the past few days, the tee looks 90%! Great Tournament Boys, thanks for your efforts & donations & look forward to many more weekend bashes in 2007, have a great Xmas & hopefully see you all & more people end of January for another tournament this time of 36 holes....
R2 & 3 Review:
Unfortunately, the course was riddled with wet weather but play continued for Rounds 2 & 3. It has been raining off & on for the past 2-3 days & will hopefully stop before the end of the weekend. The Rain, softened the course to make it play slower. Of the 11 players & 22 Rounds (One withdrew) that will continue into Round 4, only two rounds were shot over par. Johnny Allen showed the best play with rounds of 44 & 51 to shoot 2 rounds at 13 under par, firing 15 birdies today & a double bogey. The Joint Leader Golfking Isaac proved that wet weather can slow him down, but enjoyed rounds of 50 & 49 for Saturday. Golfking Isaac is yet to record a bogey, with par or birdie on the last 54 holes.
R2 & 3 Preview:
A relaxed & trouble-free Golfking Isaac will make a smashing return on Saturday with a four-stroke lead following a course-record of 10 under 44. He may of set a 18 hole course record, but he is yet to break the 72 hole record of 16 under par 200. The man himself believes he can break the record, but he is more concerned over a tough opponent 'Wedge' Jones who holds the lowest "official" handicap at the event of 5. The "Wedge" has been seen four times at Tallgums since Round 1, practising for over an hour & a half each time, enjoying a joke with Golfking Isaac but both practising together, despite the fact that they are both seeking the Championship. However anyone can win the championships final round next friday.
The Maintenance is back to normal with greens running at just over 8 '2 & are fairly firm, although wet weather is predicted following 10mm this morning. Mowing heights have been lowered as last week & the tee has been 90% repaired following the large number of last weeks divots. The Tee this week was made an additional 50% larger to cope with such play for Saturdays Rounds.
R1 Summary:
After a fine cool Saturday, the results for Round 1 have been recorded. Not only did Golfking Isaac shoot a course record of 10 under par (the course record being 7 under par) & taking the lead by four shots, but managed to shoot 8 tee shots to within 6 feet, recording 7 birdies from them. He has a bogey-free round & only missed the green on two occasions getting up & down easily both times. An accurate 'Wedge' Jones with pin-point accuracy made 8 birdies & two bogeys, his longest birdie was a 12 footer.
The most solid striker during the first round was Golfking Isaac followed by "Wedge" Jones but despite solid play still remains 4 strokes off the pace.
Most players has a great first round & sit not that far behind, with the worst being 13 strokes back, but a few birdies here & there, perhaps an ace & no bogeys & anyone can win this in a fortnights time.
No aces were recorded although three players came close. Golfking Isaac dropped three within 2 feet, while Johnny Allen dropped 1 within two inches & Steven Winkler with a 2 foot miss.
R1 Maintenance
Summary:
Round 1 was a
lesson to be learnt. I will have to repair my tee after at least 150+ divots
were left from the rounds play & practise swings. Round 2 will see a bigger
tee to come with such play & as pressure rises, the tee will take the
pounding.
The Fairway was barely touched & rough cut at 2 inches remains healthy. The green handled well with a reading between 7-8 feet. The green was firm on the dry side & will be treated to some water & no mowing until Tuesday. From Wednesday, water will be lessened & mowing etc will be as usual ready for Rounds 2 & 3 which will be played on the same day. Great Preparation will go in for Rds 2 & 3 as it will be the most play at once.
