The Murray Coat of Arms is the Arms of the Murrays of Philiphaugh, whose lineage is recorded from the thirteenth century. It has been used by many cadet branches of this ancient house and, with slight variations, by other large Murray families. From the earliest times, three silver stars or mullets upon a field of blue has been incorporated in the insignia of almost every armorial Murray family in Great Britain. This Coat of Arms is described in Burke's General Armory, Burke's Landed Gentry, Burke's Peerage and Baronetage and may other reliable works on heraldry. It is the Arms of the family of Col. James B. Murray of New York City, and has been used for generations by his descendants and by several other American branches of the Murray family. Motto "Hinc usque superna venabor." "From henceforth I will follow on even unto things above."
