2002 - Observation in Chai Wan
¡@
¡@ A big yellow "M" sign with red background is on my left hand side. Under the "M" sign, there is a western male's name "McDonald". Many people come out from there. Some of them, especially children, are holding an ice-cream. "Wellcome" is another name I watched. It is left to the "M". Besides, "café'de coral" is also there. "Wan Tsui Shopping centre" is screened onto a wall with sharp color ¡V silver.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ Opposite to Wan Tsui Shopping centre is Wan Tsui Street market. Wan Tsui Street market is full of upper-naked men. They are sitting near the bus-stop in a tradition Chinese restaurant without a cover. The decoration of this tradition Chinese restaurant is different from modern restaurants. There are no red carpets, no table cloths and no air-conditioners. Waitresses and waiters are casually wearing T-shirt and trousers. On the other part of the street market, some women are selling meats, vegetables and other fresh foods with loud shout.

What's special! Adjacent to street market is residential buildings and public library. This public library has been relocated recently. Many students wearing their school uniforms enter the library.

A number of passengers are queuing up to get on a no.8 City bus. A designated route van behind no.8 city bus also stops for waiting passengers. Traffic lamp is red on. Another no.8 city bus stops behind the zebra. The bus is going to stop at bus-stop.

After walking through a pedestrian bridge, I am on Wan Tsui Road. A super-large sign board written "See Tone bank" is hanging outside its bank. City Buses almost hits the sign board when they are driving past the bank. Another sign board named 'Pu Tong restaurant' hangs and protrudes nearly in the middle of traffic road. This sign board is just slightly higher than "See Tone bank" board.

Outside "7-eleven", several youngsters were smoking openly. Three colors (Orange, Green, red), like traffic lamp, symbolize the 7-eleven. Another shopping arcade was located in there --- "Hing Wah Shopping Centre". The design of shopping centre was attractive. It was constructed with numerous mirrors. It is impossible to hide yourself as a result of several sharp cyber-lights around the shopping centre.

¡@ ¡@
¡@ At the end of Wan Tsui Road, many mini-buses are there. An old small" Tin Hau Temple", is  there too. Same as McDonald, the name of "Tin Hau Temple" is written with yellow text color and red background. At the top of "Tin Hau Temple" board, three small red flags are waving like three Buddha candles are burning.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ After turning into Siu Man Road, Cognitio College is there. Outside Cognitio College, numerous automobiles are parking in a row. Some of them are immobile and covered with particular clothes. A stall without a name besides some brand names logos like coca-cola and vita milk attracts many college students to buy snacks and beverages. It is easy to notice that a word 'bus stop' on the road. Traffic signs like 'left turn arrow' and 'P' are there. Some advertising banners are shown on railing which separates the road into the pavement and traffic road. One of advertising banner is promoting the services of the Caritas of Hong Kong.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ I walk on Hong Man Street. Hong Man industry Centre and Kam Man Fong factory building are there. Both of them are very old-aged. The wall of these two buildings is so dirty and covers with thick chemical oils. The red statement 'be careful, inflammable product' unclearly prints on the wall.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ Opposite to the industry building is Chai wan Health Centre. A slogan 'prevent disease, eliminate rodent nuisance' is written onto a big banner. I am on No.1 Hong Man Street.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ Across the road labeled 'Look Right, look left' on the floor, I come to another shopping centre --- New Jade shopping arcade. Outside the shopping arcade, a standard chartered bank is there. Different advertisements like short movies are appeared on ATM screens. Tiny Computers Company, KFC, Fortress, Me Belle, Orange, New World, Optical 88, Sun flower and so on are insides the shopping arcade. New Jade shopping arcade is the largest shopping arcade in Chai wan. It seems an epitome of the 'commercial' world.
¡@ ¡@
¡@ MTR station is near New Jade shopping centre. When I am in train, I look out of the window. An electronic clock in the bus station shows me '18:20 on 3.April 02'. Inside the train, electronic advertising screen seems to tell me many important messages. However, I feel so confused to capture all of them... ...  those messages are telling me 'Nicholas Tse ... breaks...', 'Faye Wong....sad...', 'Mr. Tung... ...'.
