Patrick Stump : Biography

Patrick Stump (born Patrick Martin Stumph on April 27, 1984) in Glenview, Illinois, is an American musician, composer and producer. Most notably, he is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and occasional pianist of the band Fall Out Boy.
When he joined Fall Out Boy, Stump had neither sung for a band before nor had singing lessons. He formed the band with Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz, both of whom were active in Chicago's hardcore scene. The son of a folk singer, Stump was originally a drummer for a few local suburban Chicago bands, one of which being a band named Public Display of Infection, which he was in in his early teen age years. Upon the formation of Fall Out Boy, though, he took up not only lead vocal duties but was also forced to learn guitar when an early guitar player quit days before their first tour.
They released their first full length album Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend in 2003 on Uprising Records, although they shortly left the label to sign to Fueled By Ramen. They released Take This To Your Grave in May, 2003, their second full length album which earned them a devoted following and their first taste of success.
In 2003, Stump and his band mates signed with Island Records, also releasing an acoustic EP called My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue and DVD, in 2004. The next year they released their third album, From Under The Cork Tree, which was the first album where Stump composed a lot of the music while Peter Wentz provided lyrics.
Stump writes the instrumental parts for Fall Out Boy with Pete Wentz providing the lyrics. Fellow band member Joe Trohman says 'I guess Patrick is some kind of musical genius -- he's a total mad scientist.
As producer he has worked with The Hush Sound and Gym Class Heroes.
