Smokeless powders:

IMR4227, H4227, Vitavouri N110, Reloder 7 and Accurate Arms XMP-5744 are highly regarded. Old favorites like 2400 and Unique have been tried. A newer powder, Hodgdon Lil' Gun, is showing real promise.

One consideration is the size of a powders flakes or granules. Fine powder can trickle more easily in to the vent hole of the breach plug. It's not clear if this is an issue or not- caution is indicated.

Black Powder and Black Powder Substitutes. Some States may have game laws that exclude the use of smokeless powder for some seasons. In these cases, Savage shooters turn to the following:
