Each stamp in this block of four
fake postage stamps (artistamps) depicts a stone-like pose of
Butch Cassidy, the legendary Old West bank and train robber.
The image is actually a mug shot made at the Wyoming
Territorial Prison following his first arrest and conviction
for stealing horses (prior to his time with the "Hole in the
Wall Gang"). Butch, who was born in Beaver, Utah, is also well
known for his association with Sundance ("Butch Cassidy and
the Sundance Gang"). The stamp was designed by
W.C. "Bill" Porter and created by The Olathe Poste (Olathe,
Colorado).
The actual size of this block of four
artistamps is 72mm x 56mm (2.83" x
2.20").
