Sri Dakshinamurthy with Sanaka,Sananda,Sanandana & Sanath Kumara

Sri Dakshinamurthy with his four disciples Sanaka, Sananda, Sanandana, & Sanathakumara is  sitting under the Banyan tree. He holds, all the Vedas in his lower left hand & shows a light, in his left hand, symbolizing the divine wisdom of non-duality , the damarukam in his right hand, which represents the omni-present sound of Oumkaram. Sri Dakshinamurthy shows the chin mudra in his right hand & his eyes show the divine ever-bright bliss of Advaitham. In his right leg he's stamping Kala or the time, which means that he has won the time(Kalari). The non-dual state of Advaithic bliss is such a undescribable thing that, one wins the time and gets one's own mind destroyed & is in an endless ocean of bliss, which is away from the physical boundaries of time, mind & matter. (Kala,Chethana & Achethana). His disciples are the great genius Maharishis, who have realized that truth too. Just by seeing the ever-blissful divine eyes of their Guru, they learnt the essence of all the four Vedas, which is the Ultimate truth of non-duality. The four Maha-Vakyas or the crux of the Vedhas would be described later.

Sri Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa

Vyasam Vasista Naptharam Shakthe Pouthram Akalmasham
Parashara Athmajam Vande Shukha Dhatham Thaponidhim

Namosthu The Vyasa Vishala Bhuddhe Pullaravindhayadha Pathra Nethra
Ena Thvaya Bharatha Thaila Poornaha: Prajvalitho Gnanamaya Pradeepaha:

Vyasaya Vishnu Roopaya Vyasa Roopaya Vishnave
Namo Vai Bhrahma Nidhaye Vaasistaya Namo Namaha

Vyakhyanam : The above verses speak the glories of Veda Vyasa, who is celebrated as the Krishna Dvaipayana. It was Veda Vyasa, who has organized the Vedas into four Shakhas or branches. Sri Veda Vyasa, introduced the swarams or musical notes in the Vedas & also the Sama Veda. Vyasa is the great grand son of Vasista, grandson of Shaktha & is innocent. Vyasa is the son of Parashara Maharishi & is the father of Sri Suka Bhrahma Maharishi.
The second verse or sloka, is a part of the Dhyana sloka for Bagavad Gita. This verse salutes Sri Veda Vyasa who has very wide knowledge (Vishala Bhuddhi) & has eyes, like the petals of a fully blosommed Lotus. In the second line, there is very beautiful comparison, between Veda Vyasa Maharishi & a lamp. It states that, Veda Vyasa Maharishi, is like a brightly glowing lamp (with Divine Wisdom) in the oil of Maha Bharatha.
The third slokam states the equivalence of Sri Krishna Dviapayana with Lord Sriman Narayana & salutes Sri Vasista Maharishi as he is the sole authority for the Bhrahman or formless Supreme God. (Bhrahma Nidhi).

Sri BagavadhPadha with his four DisciplesSri Thotakacharya, Sri Padmapadacharya, Sri Hasthamalakacharya ,and  Sri Sureshwaracharya

Sri Shankaracharya Mathasya Padhma Padham Cha Hasthamalakam Cha Shishyam

Tham Totakam Varthikakaram Anyan Asmath Gurun Snathatham Aanathosmi

Explanation: I salute to the Guru Lineage, which includes the four disciples of Sri Acharya & continues to the present Guru.

Note: Each of the disciples of Sri Bagavadhpada were divine incarnations, who were born on this earth to remove the darkness of ignorance from the minds of the mortals & make them immortal & make them escape from the cycles of  birth & death. Sri Acharya is Sri Dakshinamurthy himself,& his four diciples are Sanaka, Sananda, Sanath Kumara & Bhramha manifested in human forms. Meditating on their divine forms itself is going to remove any traces of sins or papa vasanas form our souls & make us more & more pure.

Sri Bagavadhpada, who was an incarnation of none other than, Lord Dakshinamurthy is a real boon for the mankind in this Kali Yuga. Countless are the glories of our sweet acharya, who was born as a child of Sri Shiva Guru & Aryamba. Sri Acharya performed countless miracles right from the day of his birth. Sri Bagavadhpada, was a manifestation of divine wisdom & knowledge.

Acharya, underwent his upanayanam or the threading ceremony & went to Gurukulam. In olden days, people were strictly adhering to the Dharma Shasthras. So, bachelors would never light the fire for food. They would instead get alms from the house-holders or the family people. Those grains/ vegetables would be cooked by their Guru pathni . Once when Bagavadh pada went for biksha, he came across a house of a poor widow, who did have anything to give him. So, she picked up a dried up , goose-berry & offers it to him. Sri Acharya was pretty impressed by her notion to alms to him. Sri Acharya, started doing, sthothram in praise of Sri Lakshmi. he starts with,

Angam hare pulaka Bhooshanam Asrayanthi

Brunganganeva Mukula Abharanam Thamalam

Angee Kruthakila Viboothi Abanga Leela

Mangalyathasthu Mama Mangala Devathayaha

Sri Lakshmi  Devi, who is the owner of all the eight kind of wealth(s), told acharya that, until the next seven births), she would not have prosperity, due to her previous karmas. But acharya, constantly pleaded Sri Lakshmi Matha, & she granted the boon that, in the third birth of that lady, she would be wealthy. But acharya praised Sri Lakshmi Matha, with endless devotion.Sri Lakshmi Devi was immensely pleased, & there was a shower of golden gooseberries. That's why this particular sloka is called as, Kanakadhara Sthavam. This is just a glimpse of the miraculous deeds of Sri Bagavadhpadha. Once he attained the age, of eight, Sri Acharya, decided to take Sanyasam. He pleaded Indra, to come in as a crocodile & catch his leg while Acharya was bathing in the morning. On seeing our sweet little acharya being troubled by the crocodile, his mother Sri Aryamba, pleaded the Gods, to rescue him. There was an Akasha Vani, saying that, if she would let him to take Sanyasam, his life would be saved. Sri Aryamba, was even ready to make her only son a Saint, to save him. So, acharya took Sanyasam, & got relieved of all the worldly bonds & started traveling through the lengths) & breadths) of our ancient Bharatha Desham. The following are the list of temples, which our acharya had visited on his way to Utthara Pradesham or the Northern region of India.

The above are a very small list of temples, which adiyen tried to collect from the Sthothras, which he wrote in praise of those Dieties. Sri Bagavadhpadha, who was enlightened right from moment of his birth, finally reached, his esteemed Guru, Sri Govinda Bagavadhpadha, who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu's Adi Sesha. One seeing his Guru, he prostrated & showed his respect for his Guru. His Guru, asked, who was he & he replied as,

"I am neither my body nor a Bhramhana nor a any Varnasramee But I am my own self. The feeling of pure consciousness is what, is filled in myself."

On hearing that answer, Sri Govinda Bagavadpada was immensely pleased & decided that, Sri Shankara Bagavadhpadha was the potential disciple, whom he was looking for. He had the whole Narmada river in his Kamandalu & opened it to run as a river. Thus, Sri Bagavadhpada became a disciple of his sweet Guru, Sri Govinda Bagavadhpadha. From then on, Sri Shankaracharya became more of a traveling saint, moving from place to place to re-establish the perennial Vedic religion in the ancient karma bhoomi of Bharatham.

Buddhism, Jainishm, Tantra, Karma Margam, Kapalikam,.. were dominating the society those days. The main disadvantage of all those margas is that, those margas don't accept the importance of Vedas & Upanishads in attaining liberation from the cycles of birth & deaths). But Vedas were the divine experiences of Vedic Rishis .Some of them are as mentioned below:

and several others. Their true experiences were depicted in a coding language called as Samskrutham to their immediate disciples . Like that, these hymns, which were their own divine experiences, were transmitted all the way since 20,000 years just orally. The greatness of this perennial Veda is that, they never die & great people like Sri Shankara Acharya came to this earth to revive the Vedic culture. Vedas include 54 countries, in which the rishis were living in ancient times. These countries include:

& several other countries, inclusive of Pakistan, etc. Sri Acharya went to all those 54 countries by walk & re-established the Vedic religion. Murtha describes, the four varnasramas as,

Vedanthako Bhramhanasyath

Kshathriyo Vijayee Bhavedh

Vaishya Dhana Samurdhasyath

Shudro Suka Bhavapnuyath

Exp: The four categories of people in a society are as mentioned above. Bhramanas, are the people, who have understood the main crux of the Vedas, Kshathriya are the ones, who do administration & bring victory to the country, Vaishyas do business to increase the flow of money in a country & Shudhras bring happiness & prosperity to the people by doing physical labor. Gradually, from the first level, the amount of mental concentration involved gets decreased gradually.

Vedhas are very vast, to be understood thoroughly & it's really tuff to become a Vedanthi. Usually Bhramhanas used to spend their whole lives, analyzing the Vedhas & doing research on the contents of the Vedhas .Until the time of Sri Shankara bagavadhpadha, it was very tough for any common man, to understand the essence of the Vedhas. People used to undergo severe penances to understand what was the Ultimate Truth or the Ultimate God or Bhramham, as glorified in the Vedas. Upanishads, Puranas.. added more complexity to understanding the Vedas. Moreover, Sanskrit had started to get degrade gradually, to common languages like Gujarati.. & Sanskrit was no more the talking language of the people. So, the whole society was directionless. Non-Vedic religions like Buddhism (Shakyam), Jainism(Jainam) were pre-dominating the society. Their jazzy principles & opposition to Smrithi brought them more popularity to those religions among the common public. Srimath Bagavadhpada, came in to this Universe like a rising Sun, to remove all the traces of ignorance form the minds of all the people. In addition to those non-vedic religions, even there were lots of Upa-Devathas, which were the main deities for the local communities which were accepting rajasic & thamasic ways of worship methods). Sri Acharya, combined all the 72 religions, which were prevailing in his time to just six religions, which are as follows:

The main reason behind this classification of the main stream of the Vedic religion was that, all the Gods, mentioned in the above six religions are prescribed directly by Vedas. All other Devathas, are not really being praised by in the Vedas as Brahman. Also, Bagavathpada, graced all the JeevaRashis, by declaring the following as the essence of the Vedhas:

As mentioned earlier, understanding the crux of the Vedhas is not possible by everyone, unless they are being blessed by an enlightened man like Sri Shankara Bagavadhpada. In Kali Yuga, where dharma & sathya are in their minimum most levels, & getting moksham is really a night mare. SO, Lord blessed all of us with great genius people, who were filled with the knowledge of divine bliss.

Infact, Advaitha Vedandham is beyonnd the reach of people, who have'nt got self-realization. Infact, other Vedanthas, interpret these Maha Vakhyas, as per the level of Realizations of the interpreters. But, the ultimate goal of any path of Sadhna is Self-Knowledge. A gnani gets salvation, the moment he realizes the true nature of one's own Self. For such a Gnani, both his own self & the outside world are all illusions & only Bhramhan is true.

Writing explanation for the above mentioned maha vakhyams, would take years together & is unachievable by  common mortals like us. But adiyen is trying to explain, the message of Sri Acharya to the man kind. Sri Acharya's Advaitham could be summarized as follows:

The formless Bhramhan, who is prevailing in all the places in this world, is one's own self.

Even understanding this would never be possible without the end-less mercy of our sweet acharya, who removed all the darkness in our minds. Sri Bagavadpadha account the Bhramhan to be two-folded:

But, unless a person really has experienced the bliss of one's won self he cannot reach the second stage of enjoying the Nirguna Bhramhan. The final God or Bhramhan is form-less, color-less.. without any attributes. That Bhramhan could be reached only, when one's own self is merged with one's "Aham". In this case, the bonds of duality are broken. The duality is broken even at Saguna level. The different forms, which the Rishis mediated were the ones in the six religions. Doing Saguna Upasanam, with full vigor, in the form of bakthy makes one's Self or Aham as a Saguna or filled with attributes. Until one's true Self is being attained, there will be vasanas , which would bring us again & again to the cycles of birth(s) & death(s). far beyond the Saguna level is the Nirguna Bhramham, which is the root cause for everything & which is Sarva Antharyami. When we come round & round & do research , we end up with the discovery of the fact that, that Nirguna Bhramham is none other than one's own self. The bliss of one's won self-consciousness is being glorified as "Swa Ananda Bodha Amrutham" by great people. It is there, where the stage of "Nir Vikalpa Samadhi" occurs. Until then there would be vasanas, hanging around & there would be thoughts & desires arising from the mind. Good, thoughts would cause a person to be born as a good being in his successive births & bad thoughts would make him be born as a bad being in his successive births. But, only if a Human Being  attains a thoughtless state, he attains salvation finally & comes out of the cycles of births & deaths. Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar, glorifies this as,

"Swa Avidhya Samedha Jeeva Udhbhavam"

Exp: The poison of duality is born, as result of one's own ignorance . Until a Sadhaka realizes the purity of one's own self , there is duality between one's ego & his inner consciousness. This Pure Consciousness, is the one which is prevalent as Nirguna Bhramham every where in this Universe.

Once the Gnanis realize the greatness of Pure Consciousness, they start seeing even the Gods as a manifestation of their pure Self. In that case, doing Bakthy also would be more intensive, as the devotee is none other than the God himself. Attaining this stage is very difficult as, Maya would release her poison & make our ignorant filled ego to raise up. To prevent this, one needs to do complete surrender to one's Guru or Spiritual teacher. It is purely by the graces of Guru that, a "Purusha" attains salvation. Advaithic salvation doesn't need a person to go to Sri Vaikuntam, Sri Kailasham, Sri Puram, Sri Sooryalokam...Advaitha Gnanam, or the divine knowledge of non-duality takes a person to salvation in the same moment. So, people, who don't consider themselves different from their Athma Chaithanyam or Pure Consciousness, attain salvation the very same moment they realize the true nature of one's own Self. This is possible only by doing an unconditional surrender to one's Guru.

Sri Bagadvahpada, is a gem, who came to this earth to revive the Perennial Vaideeka Margam & take everyone to salvation. Sri Bagavadhpadha, wrote commentaries on the following Vedic,Puranic & Shashtric works based on his Advaithic Philosophy.

It was based on his commentary that, other philosophers like Sri Ramanujacharya & Sri Madhvacharya wrote commentaries based on their own level of realizations in a dualistic way. It's God's which to make the Vedas & Bhramha Suthras available to all categories of people.

In addition to above works, Sri Bagavadhpada wrote the following Sanskrit Granthams:

Sri Bagavdpada won all the Buddhistic people & the Karma Marga people in debates & re-established the perennial Vedic religion. He was very genius & just in his 32 years of life Acharya had written 100s of works in Sanskrit. The works not only show his mastery over the Sanskrit literature, but also his real experience with Advaitham or non-duality. Endless are the glories of Sri Bagavadhpadha.

Sri Bagavadhpadha, had created four monasteries in four different parts of modern India, which represented four different Vedas. Sri BagavadhPadha made his four chief disciples as the heads of those mutts. Those mutts are still functioning very actively. Let' take a look at those mutts.

Sri Shankaracharya, was the person, who laid foundation for the present day India. Long live his noble thoughts.

Now, let's take a look the Guru Paramaribo Prabhavam

Sri Guru Parampara Prabhavam -- The Glories of the Lineage of Gurus

Bhramhanandam Parama Sukadham kevalam Gnana Murhtim

Dhvandhva theetham ganana Sadrusham Thathvamashyadhi lakshyam

Explanation: The above verse describes a Guru in all his virtues. One's spiritual leader or Guru is the sole manifestation of divine wisdom, which is defined by the following characteristics:

Bhramanadam ==> Once , anyone realizes the ture nature of one's Self, which is attribute-less & pure , which is to be enjoyed all the time, he realizes the ultimate bliss of Bhodhamrutham as mentioned previously. This is called as Bhramhanandam. This is the bliss, which one gets by sipping the ocean of Amrutham, which lies with in one self.

Parama Sukatham ==> The bliss, which one gets by having the Bhodamrutham or the Pure consciousness, is an endless source of bliss or happiness.

Kevelam Gnana Murthim ==> Guru, is the manifestation of only this wisdom or divine bliss, described the qualities as mentioned above.

Dhvandva Theetham ==> Such a Guru, would be far away form the duality of One's ego & one's own Inner Self.

Gagana Sadrusham ==> One, with eyes glowing like a rising Sun

Thathvamashyadhi Lakshyam ==> A Guru, who is described by the above qualities, has nothing other than the Maha Vahktyam of "Thathvamashi" as his eternal goal. The essenc eof Thathvamashi has been explained already.

Ekam Nithyam Vimalam Achalam Sarva tho mam Sakshi Bhootham

Bhavatheetham Htriguna Rahitham Sathgurum Than Namami

Explanation: This verse, elaborates the qualities of a Guru even more.He is the Only One, which is Pure, Un-Disturbed like a Mountain & who is a Witness of all the Three Worlds & who is far away from expressions(Bhavam) & far away from the three gunas like Sathvam, Rajo & Thamas. I bow to the Guru, who posesses these characteristics.

Sri Bagavadhpadha, then created four mutts eaxaclty in the four different ends of India & built the base for the currently existing India & went to Himalayas, to take Yoga Samadhi. Numerous are the works., which our acharya had written to make all the mortals immortal.

Sri Bagavadhpadha, underwent Vedha Adhyayanam traditionally, before he wrote the Commentary for all the Upanishads & the Bhramha Sutras. Long after the time of Sri Bagavadhpadha, came Sri Ramana Maharishi, who was an iancarnation of Sri Dakshinamurthy too, who preached Advaitham or non-duality. Sri Ramana Maharishi, did not tkae a formal Sanyasam from any Advaithic Gurus. Like Sri hasthamalaka Acharya, Sri Ramana Maharishi had, the divine wisdom, like a amalaka or gooseberry in his fore-hands. Bagavan, came to Sri Arunachala Hills, at the age of 16 & never went any where from that place.Sri Ramana Maharishi, considered Sri Arunachala hills as the divine manifestation of one's own Self or the Athma Bodhamrutham. Sri Ramana maharishi, blessed lots of people with the divine knowledge of Self & showed the bliss in one's own self.

Paran Allathu Paaradhigal Paaradhu Ena Paarppan

Paran Alladhu Matrondru Illai Endran

Shranam Ena Adiyarkku Arul Annamalai Ramanan

Charanalalladhu Matrondru Illai Namakke

Description: The above verse in Tamizh, was composed by a Tamizh poet called Amudhanar, who was a life long devotee of Sri Bhagavan. This states that, Sri Ramana told that, there is nothingother than the Supreme (Para Bhramham). Sri Ramana blesses all the people, who surrender to him & in this Kali Yuga, where righteousness is of very low level, there's nothing other than the the Lotus feet of Sri Ramana Maharishi, which could save us from the cycles of birth(s) & deaths.

Sri Ramana, told the whole Vedantha Saaram in two simple lines:

Hridhaya Kuhara Madhye Kevalam Bhramha Mathram

Aham Aham Ithi Sakshath Athma Roopo Bhavantham

Explanation: Sri Ramana, explained the nature of Bhramham. He says that in the cage of the heart, only Bhramham resides, which is always exhibiting itself as "Self" or "Aham", which is nothing but the Athman. This verse equates the Atman to Bhramhan, which has no attributes (Nirguna Bhramhan). Sri Bhagwan, lived a very simple life & showed the true path of Non-duality of this world. It was Bhagwan Ramana maharishi, who told that, the philosophical method of Self-Analysis would be literally equivalent to the theoritical method of Charanagathy or unconditional surrender to Almighty, which the Azhwars have elaborated in their work called, Divya Prabandham, consisting of 4000 verses.

Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, stressed the people on the importance of  Athma Vicharam. This is Self-Analysis, which makes the Sadhaka or the Practitioner one with the Sadhna or the practice. In that case, they become Ananya or One & hence the non-duality is being achieved. This Sri Bhagwan calls as "Mano nasham" or the destruction of Mind. The mind, which we assume as our Ego, gets destroyed & only the inner self prevails within ourselves. This Inner Self, clears away all the thoughts, that arise in our mind & we become one with the Ultimate Supreme God or Para Bhramham. This bliss of Self-Knowledge or Bhodamrtuham, makes us realize the fact that, it is this bliss, which is present in this Universe as different objects. Sri Swaigal, says this in a very beautiful way. He tells that, for Gnanis or people with Wisdom,  everything is Bhramham & they are none other than the Bhramham.

Sri Muralidhara Swamigal

Sri Swamigal, is an Avadhuta Prusha, living at a place called Madhurapuri near Chennai. Sri Swamigal, encourages all ranges of people - Gnana Margia, Bakthas.. He is a bridge between the Sri Vaishnavam &  Advaitham. it's because of him, that the greatness of Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi are coming to light. Sri Swamigal, is a dasa of Lord Krishna & is a true Bhagavatha. Sri Swamigal, performs Bhagavtha Sapthaham at several holy places like Guruvayoor, etc..

All the above Gurus, who were described above are semi-mythological firgures as, none of them are physically alive at this point of time. But Sri Swamigal is alive & he lives with us & blesses all of us. It was Sri Swamigal, who had sent his audio casettes of Ramana Jayanthi to adiyen & blessed me. Sri Swamigal's lectures are so sweet that, we never get bored. Adiyen had listened those 32 casettes atleast 6 times. But, each time adiyen finds somehting new in each of those casettes. By the graces of God, adiyen got Sri Swamigal as my Satguru.

In addition to elaborating on several great people like Saint Thukaram, Sri Meera Bhai, Sri Kabir Das, Sri Bodhendral, Sri Bhagwan Ramana Maharishi, Sri Swamigal also tlaks liberally about the dwadasha Azhwars & Sri Ramamnujacharya & also Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabu. Sri Swamigal , says that, there are different philosophies about the nature of Bhramham, which is a point of strength for our Sanathana Dharmam. Sri Swamigal, is an ardent devotee of Paramacharyal, Rama Krishna Parama Hamsa  & Sri Ramanar. Sri Swamigal also does Thiru Adyayanam (chanting of 4000 verses of Divya Prabhandham) & also Divya Nama Sankeerthanam as per the Bagavatha Tradition. It was the Avyaja Karunai of Sri Swamigal that, Adiyen got the divine knoeldge of bakthy & got all the doubts on religious practices cleared. Sri Swamigal, conducts the Bhramhotsavam of Sri Premika Vardhan & Sri Madhuri Saki in a very grand manner. On the ending day of this grand festival, Sri Swamigal performs the Kaliyan Utsavam commemorating the endless mercy of SriMan Narayana on Sri Parakala Muni or Sri ThiruMangai Azhwar.

Sri Swamigal promotes all the margas, that lead to the divine self-knowldge. The pure flawless bakthy of Azhwars, the vivacious bakthy of Sri Chaithanya MahaPrabhu, the divine Vedic Knowledge of Sri Bagavadhpada, the Athma Vichara Thathva of Sri Ramana Maharishi, Paramacharyal & Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsa. Sri Swamigal, is also against the differences of caste, creed, etc. Sri Swamigal also goes tot he huts of the un-touchables to accept their Puja. Sri Swamigal is like Sri Ramanujacharya in that aspect.

The melodious, sweet discourses of Sri Swamigal is a real gift for the whole mankind. Loed Krishna has sent Sri Swamigal to save all the people, who get diverted from the path of getting salvation. All kinds of people irrespective any caste, creed or cult have become bakthas of Sri Swamigal.

Sri Guru Padharavidham Shirasahrunami

Sri Guru Charanou Sharanam Aham Prapadhye

Explanation: Let's bear Sri Guru's  Padhukai(sandals) on our forehead. Let take refuge at the divine feet of our Gurus. Doing complete surrender at one's Guru's feet would directly take one to moksham or salvation. Guru Krupa, or blessings of Guru would  get God's blessings very easily, as Guru is an acknowledged representative of Almighty to save all the mortals from getting into cycles of births & death. Let's all take refuge at our Guru's Padhukai & meditate  on their Thaniyans or slokams.
