I stand in the middle of a dead corn field. Snow is just beginning to fall from the gray sky above. Nearby is a vanity with an oval mirror. My friend is patiently posed in front of it wearing a high-low cotton dress. I know that she's cold, but tell her to look pensively into the sky framed in the mirror. She does so, and satisfied with the view before me, I snap the picture. The place where I am most content is behind a camera lens. Behind a sheet of glass where the eye sees the world through a different perspective; my perspective.
