President's Message

Friend and partner:

Welcome to our site. We hope you feel you are taking part in our daily doings.

We make every effort to develop projects defending female causes, because we believe that we can make the world a better place.

In this administration and following the orientation from our Governor, we will be focusing our work on the motto “girls, our priority”.

We live in a violent, aggressive, instable, world, values are in constant mutation, but we know that we must seek prudence to our actions so that we may achieve our objectives of improving the status of women and girls.

Interior balance, harmony amongst the surrounding chaos, spiritual values always in our minds, we will lead a full and more pleasant life, and perhaps we shall be advancing to the improvement of precious lives.

Guiomar Szabo

With the new visual identity, an important strategic component of the trademark“Soroptimist International of the Americas”, S. I. Santos presents the new face of our organization: a stylish “S” with the word “Soroptimist” (from the Latin “soror” – sister, and “optimist”), and the slogan "Best for Women".

The Soroptimist Organization develops activities in many áreas, among which Health, Social and Economic Development, Education, Human Rights/Status of Women, Environment, International Goodwill and Understanding. The organization has General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, (ECOSOC) and has representatives at many meetings of its agencies and organs in UN Centres, to provide a better living for women and girls in the local communities and throughout the world.

Advancing the status of women and girls at international level, every year about 13 thousand dollars are offered to help women who apply to programs as Women’s Opportunity Award, Violet Richardson Award, Making a Difference for Women Award. Through this last program, a special woman that works to benefit other women has the possibility to receive five thousand dollars.

In Santos, the club has developed many projects during the last forty-seven years, with the objective of developing interest to community issues, national and international subjects, and to help improving patriotism and love to our country.

This Club is a partner to the local government in the Project “Sponsor a Square”. It also keeps a atelier for sewing and arts and crafts work, at Vila Gilda, a district at the skirts of our town, and develops a project named Safe Home on domestic violence. S.I.Santos takes active part in public hearings promoted by the local government, and is a member of Municipal Councils as the one on Health, on the Defense of Women, and on Defense of the Environment. For its active participation in community issues, SI Santos received a medal of honor from the local government.

Besides the mentioned projects, once a year the Club realizes many programs: a contest called “Cora Coralina”, to promote women that sell their homemade sweets and cakes; an homage to women that make a difference in the community by means of the “Bertha Lutz” Award; the Art Salon “Zilda Noronha Guedes”, to divulge the works of artists in the community.

SI Santos was declared of public utility by Municipal Law 3417, of April 7, 1967, and its By-laws duly registered identify SI Santos that adopted the motto “Those who do not serve are not fit to live”.

... Current Projects
Kind Heart: to make women conscious with respect to cardiovascular diseases;
Phoenix: in Vila Gilda, at Santos’ outskirts, to improve the lives of women who sew and embroider clothes and accessories to make a living;

...
Your daughter your treasure: this project intends to make mothers conscious of the care and attention they must pay to their daughters, so that pregnancy at teenage and abuses suffered by girls may be prevented. It also alerts about sex trafficking.

... Web site
this is an up-to-date project, frequently renewed.
