2008 Camp will be June 24-June 29
The Chicana/o Youth Leadership Camp was initiated in 1994 by a group of committed individuals with a history of working with Latino youth in and out of San Diego County. The leadership camp started as an idea to have a program for high school-aged youth on a university setting where the students would be exposed to an institution of higher learning. Since its inception, the Camp has serviced over 300 students. Now in its 13th year, the Camp steering committee plans to expand our services from the summer camp to local high school student organizations through facilitation of workshops during the school year. Please revisit this site often as more information on this year-round service becomes available.
It should be emphasized that although the Camp’s focus is leadership in the Latina/o community, any youth who is interested in learning about leadership in the Latina/o culture is eligible to participate. Over the years, students from various ethnic, cultural, economic and geographical backgrounds have participated in and enhanced the Camp.
The Camp is held annually at San Diego State University. Students stay in the residence halls and are exposed to day-to-day campus life. Residential advisors “RA”, who are trained university students, provide supervision, mentorship and guidance throughout the camp process. |
