| Photo Op - Third Graders Visit Town of Somers Historic Sites FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Somers, NY, June 1 2005 - More than 260 third graders from Somers Intermediate School will visit Town Historic Sites as part of social studies curriculum. Children and chaperones are asked to dress in period costume. Storyteller Jonathan Kruk will perform and special activities are scheduled. This is the 16th year event is being hosted and organized by Somers Historical Society, in collaboration with Somers School District. Historic sites to be visited are: � Wright Reis Homestead, ancestral home of Carrie Wright Reis, benefactress to the Town of Somers. (Her home, its contents, and 82 acres of adjoining farmland which is now known as Reis Park. Somers Library and Town�s major recreational facility now occupy most of the land. Wright family as a Somers pioneer family dating back to the Revoluntionary War Times.) � Mt. Zion Church and cemetery (listed on State and National Registers of Historic Sites) Dates and times of visits by children; Today and tomorrow, 6/2, 3. 10am � 1pm. Hope you can find it informative enough to cover. Might also include a quick trip over to one of the state and county�s newest National Historic Landmark � The Elephant Hotel.
