History
We
started in August 2001 as a group of medical students from the National
University of Singapore (NUS) to assist in the setting up of a medical center in
Bilin Township, Myanmar.
Since then, we have introduced a Special Study Module (SSM) on our project as part of the Faculty’s undergraduate curriculum, conducted 2 fund-raising events and collected drugs and medical equipments for our project.
The
June trip was a study tour to Yangon to enable our members to obtain a better
understanding of the healthcare situation in Myanmar.
“Somanassa”
means “happiness” in Pali, an ancient Indian language. We hope that through
our work, we will bring happiness to the people we serve.
We
are now in the process of registering an organization named “The Medical
Alliance” to host our project. Its mission is to assist in the provision of
essential medicine, supplies and services to needy populations.
