New members are invited to join the SOAS Ceilidh Band.
The Band is based at the School of Oriental and African
Studies (Bloomsbury, London, just behind the British Museum).
We play the traditional dance musics
of the British Isles and Ireland. Jigs, reels, hornpipes etc.
A tradition of music which spans the centuries.
We play regular ceilidh dances
in London, but we are also strongly committed to the idea of “Ceilidh Beyond Borders” (our
travel tours in recent years have taken us to Calais, Paris, Istanbul, Venice,
Cairo, Lebanon and Kurdistan).
We are a non-audition band. All instruments are welcome.
Membership is free and open to all, students and non-students alike. You don’t
have to be a SOAS
student to join.
Ability to read music is not necessary (although it
helps). We can also provide instruments for beginners.
We generally rehearse once a week at SOAS, on Thursday
evenings. [During this period of Covid we are
developing safe and innovative ways to organise our
rehearsals.]
The band is also available for college bookings, birthday
parties, weddings etc.
If you would like to join the band, or for further
details, write to
