Anthony Wytko

Army vet retired from Testa Machine - The members of Lodge 89 sadly report the July 25, 2003 passing of Brother Anthony "Tony" Wytko 81, of Atlasburg, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born February 2, 1922, in Francis Mine, a son of John and Caroline Medved Wytko.

Brother Wytko retired from Testa Machine in Slovan in 1985.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Dunkovich Wytko; a daughter, Carol Kowalski of Crafton; and two stepgrandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Kowalski.

Deceased are a brother, Joseph Wytko, and four sisters, Kathryn Pollack, Ann McFarland, Mary Gonzalez and Rose Nodianos.

Mary J. Daniels

Burgettstown homemaker - The members of Lodge 89 sadly report the April 4, 2003 passing of Sister Mary J. Daniels, in her home. She was 88.

Sister Daniels was born June 26, 1914, in Large, a daughter of Frank and Mary Sage Korosec.

Sister Daniels was a homemaker and a member of SNPJ Lodge 89.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, and its Christian Mothers.

Her husband, Raymond "Red" Daniels, died in 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond and William Daniels, both of Burgettstown; a sister, Emma Lukon of Burgettstown; and two grandsons, Raymond Daniels Jr. and William Daniels Jr.

Deceased are a brother, Frank Korosec; and two sisters, Fannie Korosec and Ann Vajentic.

Jeannette Dvorsak

Burgettstown, Pa. - The members of Lodge 89 sadly report the January 2, 2002 passing of Sister Jeannette M. (Jay) Dvorsak. She was 79.

Sister Dvorsak was born January 10, 1922, in Atlasburg, a daughter of Frank and Catherine Lucci Miceli.

She was a homemaker.

She was a 43-year SNPJ member and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown, where she was a member of its Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America.

She was an avid bowler and had participated in the Burgettstown Women's Bowling League.

She was married to Anthony "Gracie" Dvorsak, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Anthony Dvorsak Jr. of Chippewa; two daughters, Marie Ferguson of Bulger, Pa., and Kathleen Niznik of Bellevue, Pa.; five brothers, Patsy Mitchell and Charles Micle, both of Bulger, Pa., Domenick Mitchell of Schnectady, N.Y., Louis Mitchell of Granite City, Ill., and Frank Miceli of Atlasburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Alvarez of Burgettstown and Betty Skarupa of Bulger; seven grandchildren, Anthony Ferguson, Rhonda Ferguson Robbins, Jason, Matt, Brian and Carrie Jayann Dvorsak, and Ashley Niznik.

Preceding her in death are a brother, Joseph Mitchell, and two sisters, Clara Orgavon and Julie Tornabene.

Anna M. Punola

Midway, Pa. - Lodge 89 members sadly report the January 5, 2001, passing of Sister Anna M. Punola, 88, in Country Meadows nursing Home, Bridgeville, Pa.

Sister Punola was born July 30, 1912, in Primrose, Pa.; a daughter of Daniel and Mary Mlinac. Her husband, John Punola, is deceased.

A 53-year Society member at the time of her passing, she also belonged to St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Mcdonald, Pa.

Survivors include two sons, John A. Punola of New Jersey and Robert C. Punola of Primrose; two daughters, Patricia P. Funaro of Oakdale, Pa., and Barbara E. Olson of McDonald; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Rose Gasvoda of West Virginia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Dan, Frank, Anthony and John Mlinac.

Edna Mae Starek

Midway, Pa. - With sadness, Lodge 89 members report the April 29, 2001, passing of Sister Edna Mae Starek, 81, in Washington County Health Center.

Sister Starek was born May 30, 1919, in Midway; a daughter of John and Frances Malovarsic Dubloe. She was a homemaker.

A 63-year Society member at the time of her passing, she also belonged to St. Patrick Worship Site of St. Patrick Parish in Canonsburg, Pa., and the Catholic Daughters of America Court Assembly 1211. She enjoyed square dancing with the Washington Senior Citizens.

She married John T. Starek Sr. December 30, 1939. He preceded her in death February 16, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Dubloe.

Survivors include two sons, John T. Starek Jr. of Washington and Michael W. Starek of Mt. Lebanon, Pa.; two grandsons, John and Mark Starek; a granddaughter, Michele Hess; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

William Lukancich

Burgettstown, Pa. - The members of Midway, Pa., Lodge 89 sadly report the August 8, 2001, passing of Brother William Lukancich. He was 81.

Brother Lukancich was born February 2, 1920 in Frances Mine, Pa., a son of Vido and Josephine O'Zanick. He joined SNPJ in February 1928, having been a member for 63 years at the time of his death. He was a former member of Center United Presbyterian Church of Midway and an Army veteran of World War II.

He retired from H.H. Robinson Co. in Ambridge, Pa., as a laborer.

His first wife, Margaret Lukancich is deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

His second wife, Georgia Lukancich survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Debbie Winerhemier of Florida, Annita Boyer of Florida and Margaret Bizziack of Washington; two sons, Norman and William Lukancich, both of Florida; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Martin Machek

Primrose, Pa. - With sadness, the members of Lodge 231 report the August 31, 2001, passing of Brother Martin T. Machek, 64, at his home in McDonald, Pa. Brother Machek had served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Lodge.

He was born June 8, 1937, in Pittsburgh; a son of the late Andy and Mary Sray Machek. A clams adjuster for the Pennsylvania Workmen's Insurance Fund for the past 14 years, he had also been employed by Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. in Aliquippa, Pa., for 26 years.

In addition to 48 years of SNPJ membership, several of which he served as secretary of Lodge 231, he was also a former Midway, Pa., councilman.

He married the former Joan Pletincks, who survives, January 10, 1956.

Also surviving are two daughters, Marta L. Zak of Ambridge, Pa., and Connie M. Hart of Waynesburg, Pa., two sons, Daniel A. Machek of Primrose and Michael J. Machek of Midway; a brother, Fred Machek of Primrose; two sisters, Vera McLaughlin of Primrose and Violet Uliana of Bethlehem, Pa,; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Machek; and two sisters, Fannie Machek and Anne Miltenberger.

Ann Mullen

Midway, Pa. - The members of Midway Lodge 89 sadly report the October 31, 2001 passing of Sister Ann M. Mullen. She was 87.

Sister Mullen was born October 3, 1914, in Verner Mine, Pa., a daughter of Mike and Josephine Turkily Evanovich. She was a 46-year SNPJ member and a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Bulger, Pa. She was an aide for Woodville State Hospital.

Sister Mullen was preceded in death by her husband, John Mullen; a brother, John Evanovich; and a sister, Katherine Blazevich.

Frances Montequin

Midway, Pa. - Lodge 89 members sadly announce the December 7, 2000, passing of Sister Frances L. Montequin, 85, in Canonsburg General Hospital, Canonsburg, PA.

Sister Montequin was born January 12, 1915, in Burgettstown, Pa; a daughter of Frank and Johanna Cadiz Laurich. Prior to retiring she was employed by Ace Reconditioners in Langeloth and Washington, Pa.

In addition to 69 years of SNPJ membership, she also belonged to Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, where she was active in the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America; the Burgettstown Senior Citizens and the Slovenian Women's Catholic Lodge in Burgettstown. She also volunteered her time to the Meals on Wheels program.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Ramona Schaky of Newcomerstown, Ohio; a sister, Anne Kiss of Burgettstown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Montequin, in 1953; two brothers, Frank Jr. and Andrew Laurich; and a sister, Mary Laurich.

Ferdinando Fratini

Midway, Pa. - The members of Lodge 89 sadly report the August 10, 2000, passing of Brother Ferdinando "Fred" Fratini, 85, of Bulger, Pa.

Brother Fratini was born October 19, 1914, in Bulger; a son of Guido and Teresa Beccalua Fratini, A U.S. Navy veteran, he served on the USS Litchfield during World War II. He was employed as a construction superintendent and had also worked as a coal miner at Montour No. 9, Champion No. 1 and for Rea Coal Co.

A 53-year SNPJ member at the time of his passing, he also held membership with the United Mine Workers of America; VFW Post 7214 in Bulger; American Legion Post 902 in Houston, Pa; the Westland Sportsmen's Club and St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Bulger.

He married the former Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Bacu, who survives, February 16, 1946. Also surviving are two daughters, Nora Gilles of Bulger and Ruth Hanley of Bethel Park, Pa; two brothers, Memmo and Raymond Fratini, both of Bulger; a sister Evelyn Cardillo of Sturgeon, Pa.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Fratini; and three sisters, Anna Marie Fernandez, Wanda Queen and Nora Fratini.

Mildred Yamber

Midway, Pa., - Lodge 89 members sadly report the Jan. 22, 2003, passing of Sis. Mildred Yamber, 84, at her home in Burgettstown.

Sis. Yamber was born April 18, 1918 in Burgettstown, a daugher of Anthony and Antoinette Alex Laurich. She married John Yamber Nov. 28, 1947. He preceded her in death Feb. 12, 1967.

In addition to her 43-year SNPJ membership, Sis. Yamber was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, and its Christian Mothers. She was an avid baker and enjoyed crocheting.

Sis. Yamber owned and operated Pleasant Valley Hotel in Burgettstown.

Surviving are a daugher, Sandy Ulrich of Bulger; three sons, John Yamber of Burgettstown, Joseph "Smoke" Yamber of Avella and Stanley Mozina of Altasburg; two sisters, Evelyn Ostop of Burgettstown and Mary Yamber of Atlasburg; eight grandchildren, John, Jessica, Joe and Joelle Yamber and Bethany, Corrie, Tom Jr. and Tyler Ulrich; and several nieces and nephews.

Sis. Yamber was preceded in death by two brothers, August and William Laurich; and two sisters, Rose Marie Bongiorni and Hannah Pollana.

Margaret Yenko

Midway, Pa., - The members of Lodge 89 are saddened to report the February 6, 2002, passing of Sister Margaret Yenko. She was 94.

Sister Yenko was born February 27, 1907, in Livingston, Ill., a daugher of Valentine and Bojnar Koss. She was a 79 year SNPJ member. She was also a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church of Bulger, KSKJ and the Slovenian Women's Union.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Stephan Yenko, passed away May 23, 1965.

Surviving are a daughter, Louise Paskutis of Bulger; a son, William Yenko of Bulger; grandchildren, Joseph, Brennan and Eric Burke, Terry Yenko, Becky Briggs and Paskutis; and eight great-grandchildren.

Deceased are two sons, Steve Yenko Jr., who passed away March 20, 1999, and an infant John Yenko; a daughter, Eleanor Burke; and a sister, Mary Michaels.

Mildred Krocsko

Midway, Pa., - The members of Lodge 89 are saddened to report the February 22, 2002, passing of Sister Mildred Taucher Krocsko. She was 95.

Sister Krocsko was born October 4, 1906, a daughter of John and Mary Miklavcic Taucher.

She was a lifelong resident of the Burgettstown area and a homemaker who enjoyed baking and sewing. She was employed for several years in the cafeteria in Burgettstown School District.

She was a 79-year member of SNPJ. She was also a former member of Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church in Burgettstown and a member of Burgettstown Senior Citizen Center.

On July 1, 1933, she married Michael Krocsko, who passed away March 19, 1978.

Suriving are a son, Wallace Krocsko of Burgettstown; a daughter, Rosemary Guna of McMurray; two granddaughers, Jennifer Guna Newpaver and Michelle Guna; and a brother, Gilbert Taucher of Burgettstown.

Preceding her in death are four sisters, Lillian Davis, Margaret Ferro, Bertha Monsandl and Katherine Taucher; and a brother, Frank Taucher.

Ann Vajentic

MIDWAY, Pa. - The members of Lodge 89 are saddened to report the March 27, 2002, passing of Sister Ann K. Vajentic. She was 84.

Sister Vajectic was born July 6, 1917, in Russellton, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Mary Sage Korosec.

For 60 years, Sister Vajentic worked in restaurants, housekeeping and as a pharmacy clerk in the Burgettstown Pa., area. She retired at age 76.

She was a 67-year SNPJ member, and was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown and the Burgettstown Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting and especially loved the Christmas season.

Her husband, Rudy Vajentic, passed away May 4, 1980.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jo Vajentic of Burgettstown; a son, Rudy Vajentic Jr., of Burgettstown; two sisters, Mary Daniels and Emma Lukon, both of Burgettstown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Korosec, and a sister, Frances Korosec.

The members of the Slovene National Benefit Society and Lodge 89 extend sympathies to Sister Vajentic's family and friends.
