Having been a dog owner for several years I have found the following books extremely useful:

'You and Your Dog' by David Taylor ISBN:0-86318-111-2

'Guide to Owning a Bichon Frise' by Jamie Dylan ISBN:0-7938-1868-0

The Kennel Club provides extensive information for pet owners/lovers and breeders alike. Those embarking on owning a dog should start with the Kennel Club to find out as much as possible about their chosen breed. The first of the above books is a good general reference guide to owning and caring for a dog.

In my recent efforts to breed Bichon Frise the following books have proved themselves to be invaluable resources, the first of these was recommended by a member of the Southern Breeders Association - Bichon Frise:

'Book of the Bitch - A Complete Guide to Understanding and Caring for Bitches' by J.M. Evans & Kay White ISBN:1-86054-023-6

'The Complete Book of Dog Breeding' by Dan Rice ISBN:0-8120-9604-5

'The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies - A Complete and Practical Guide' by Muriel P. Lee ISBN:0-7938-0497-3

Those of you who are considering breeding would be well advised to contact local Breed Associations and Breeders for advice. Most importantly discuss your plans with your Veterinary Surgeon. They are the people that know you and your dog and are in the best position to offer sound advice for the benefit of your dog. Your dog's health and well being are the most important consideration when breeding. If you think it is a good way to make money - THINK AGAIN.
