Fort #15 December 1998 120 Blocks, 9' High 2 Stories, 1 Door The winter of 1998-'99 wasn't very good for fort-building, mostly due to poor weather. This was the only one I got done, and it wasn't exactly anything to marvel at. This was the second fort to have an upper floor, and this time there was enough room for a couple of people to stand comfortably, at the top. The bent shape was due to a construction error, the result of leaving a row of blocks half-finished while the temperature was above freezing. This fort lasted six days, a record at the time.

Fort #17 February 2000 464 Blocks, 9' High 9 Windows & 1 Door 2 Stories This was the beginning of a new chapter, in the saga of these large snowforts. With the addition of several volunteer helpers, rapid progress could now be made. This fort was built in just over two weeks, although it was not completed due to poor weather.

Even in its half-finished state, it was still a big accomplishment. It consisted of five rooms joined together, and even had a massive upper floor (the largest one ever, actually). It was roughly equal to five small two-storie forts joined together. Had this been finished according to the plans, it would have stood almost twice as high. A warm rain on Valentine's day left this fort in ruins, and discouraged us from building anything else this winter. But next winter would have better things in store.....
