Welcome to.....
Update Feb. 2009

This will be the final update to this site; the forts are long-dead and it's extremely unlikely any more will be built. I'm going to update a few things and post pictures of the last fort attempted, and that's about it.
A Brief History:

In January 1997, I came up with a simple idea for creating massive snowforts with common plastic buckets. The idea quickly "snowballed" from there, turning into a yearly tradition that would consume not only my own winters, but those of the friends who would later help me build these things. Just how big did they get? The tallest one ever (February 2003) stood a record 25 feet high, and was built from over 1000 blocks of snow (at 15 - 30 lbs each!). The styles and construction methods have varied over the years, but one goal has always remained central to each project; to build the neatest, most impressive snowforts possible with the resources at hand. Sadly, those resources have gotten smaller and smaller over the years, and today it's apparent that this much-loved winter pastime is now just a memory. I discuss some of these topics in more detail in the Questions & Answers page.

The first web site devoted to these structures, launched in the fall of 2001, was also located here on Geocities (under my previous username "mrmusicman79"). In the fall of 2002, the site was completely redone under its own domain name - the Snowfortzone. It was a rather nice site if I do say so myself, but over the next year and a half it would be prove to be just too expensive. I had planned to produce and market a snowfort video, to help pay for the site fees, but this idea never got off the ground (further explained in
Q&A). So as a lasting (and free) tribute to these forts, I present to you this humble collection of pictures and notes - a tribute to the giant forts that once were.
