The Green River Holt rests among rolling hills and low mountains, and is crossed with a wide, slow moving river. It is a relatively warm area during all times of year except the deepest of winters.

This holt is known for its relaxed attitude and pleasant people. It is also known to be the contact site for the Hive. The Holt is not located in one specific area, being very spread out but mostly set up along the river banks. People live in trees, both shaped and built-dens, caves and underground.

There is a peak which dominates the horizon nearby, Farsend's Peak. He is an expert Astral communicator, and does so at the top of the peak. There is actually a "slide" leading down within the peak, made of smoothly shaped crystal and stone, which exits into the deeper part of the river.

All around the Holt are tall holt Marker trees. They are shaped evergreens which have a "candy stripe" of red going around them. By being trained, a young elf or one new to the area can learn to spot these trees, and head toward them. They each also have a marker on their trunk telling the distance to the center of the Holt.

On the west, just about two days travel, is the Hive. They are detailed elsewhere, but they often trade with the Greenriver elves as well as the First Holt inhabitants. The terrain they live in is mostly rugged, with some flat washes.

In the north, the land becomes flatter and flatter and snowier and colder. To the south, however, the land spreads out into the great Plain.

On the east, the forest becomes heavier and the land hilly for hundreds of miles. Eventually, past the Evergreen Woods, is the Ice Traders land.

Some Plains Wanderers stop in at Greenriver to trade, but it is rare because they are farther north than their usual herd-migration allows.
