Spineshank, Nonpoint, Boiler Room and Chimaira
Thursday February 1st, 2001- Ground Zero: Spartanburg, SC
Around 4:45 Melina and I left school to drive to Spartenburg, South Carolina to see Nonpoint, Chimaira, and Spineshank at Ground Zero.  We got there about 7:30 after getting turned around a bit. To our surprise, there weren't many people at all. Ground Zero is a cool venue, 'bout the same size as the masquerade I guess. Anyway, we ran up to the front as we always do, so that we could get a good spot by the barrier. Robb from Nonopint kept walking around. I wanted him to sign some stuff for me, but I didn't want to move for fear Id lose my spot. Anyway, Chimaira played first. This was the first time I had seen them play. Melina had played  a few songs of theirs for me, mostly "Severed", so I was eager to watch them perform. They were awesome. It was weird watching them, 'cause I thought they'd look much different then they do. Because there music is so heavy, you'd think they'd look really scary or something. But they don't. they just look like normal guys.  Melina and I both noticed that the bass player looked an awful lot like Fieldy from KoRn. One of the guitarist, the other Rob was wearing a System of a Down Sweatshirt and the DJ had on a Soulfly Windbreaker. After Chimaira played Boiler Room went on. They were OK. People weren't really into them though. Probably just location. After Boiler Room, my boys from Nonpoint fucking tore it up! Elias, as anyone with plan sight can see, is absolutely gorgeous and he was not lacking any asthetical qualities that night much to my delight. They opened with HIVE and closed with MINDTRIP. In between they played WHAT A DAY, BACK UP, VICTIM, ENDURE, MISLED, and DOUBLE STAKKED. Elias must have been hot onstage cause he had on a long sleeved shirt, yet was moving around a lot. He was really into the music though, and was dancing and shaking, and doing his thing onstage. Nonpoint dedicated the song Endure to Spineshank and I could see Jonny off to the side singing the words. Later, Jonny came out and gave Elias a sip of Jack Daniel's. Anyway, being up front for Nonpoint rocked. Robb saw Melina and I singing along to all of the songs and so after they were done, he handed us his drum sticks which I thought was really cool. Spineshank went on after them.  They played a good set as well. Although, they had way too many lights and shit. I thought I was going to go blind! All in all the show was good.
After the show ended Melina and I were walking around looking for the guys from Nonpoint. We were sorta standing near the backstage entrance when some guy came up to us and said, "Do u guys want to get those signed or something?" and we said, "yes" and then he asked, "by who?" and we said, "Robb from Nonpoint." Then he proceeded to tell us that Nonpoint had left! I was bumbed. I had a feeling they would do that because they left almost right after they played when they opened for Hed(pe) back in November. Anyway this dude who was talking to us turned out to be Andre, Boiler Room's tour manager. He's 31 and recently divorced. His ex wife? Esther...lead singer of Lords of Acid.  His dad apparently owns four recording studios in New York and he manages bands on tour for the better part of the year. He hardly gets the chance to go home.  He dazzled Melina and I with stories of all of the many bands he's met, worked, and toured with. He's gone out on Ozzfest before and has toured with Sepultura, and Deftones. Andre was telling us that the job he had was good, but hard. He basically has to keep everyone in line, when no one wants to work and shit. He's really smart so he deals with all the business and numbers shit. He's gonna go out with Less then Jake in about two weeks cause he's managing the band that's opening for them; A New Found Glory.  But he told us that if we wanted to go to the show, he'd put us on the guest list. We told him that we'd be at the Masquerade show the next day and he said that he'd put us on Boiler Room's  guest list. He said he'd try to get us backstage so that we could meet Nonpoint. So I wrote down our names for him and he put them in his pocket. Anyway, we were just talking and shit to Andre when we noticed a skank ass whore groupie backstage.  She had on boots and like a short black skirt. She had blonde hair. Anyway Andre told us that he was talking to us because we looked like nice girls.  The groupie whore backstage had one of her legs up in the air. He said that he lets girls like that backstage cause they wanna be stupid. Some girls will do anything to get backstage. He said, "If you're stupid and you wanna get backstage, Ill let you backstage. but if you're gonna be stupid, Im gonna treat you like you're stupid." I thought that was pretty funny actually. A lot of girls want to talk about how guys don't respect them enough.  But if they want to be in a position where guys do respect them, they shouldn't give guys reasons to treat them like crap.  Those groupies totally aren't respected by any of those guys in bands.  I wonder if they realize that.  Andre seemed to be amused by the fact that he could get that girl (or any girl really)  to do whatever he wanted her to do, just because he was in the position to help her meet guys in the bands. Then all of a sudden we heard a simultaneous, "UGGH!!!. That's gross! Nasty!" coming from the back room.  All of these guys flooded out of the room, including Jonny.  He came over to Andre and said, "Man you don't even want to know what's going on back there."
