Spineshank, Nonpoint, Boiler Room, Munkigrip and Chimaira
Friday February 2nd, 2001- The Masquerade: Atlanta, GA
We got to the masquerade around 8. We didnt see many people outside so we were kinda scared. We had told Mark that there would surely be more people that night. We went up to the  front and gave our names to the nice lady in the booth. Andre had placed us on Boiler Rooms guest list, just as he had promised. No passes though. Anyway we went inside and to our surprise there were lots of people there already which kinda sucked cause we couldnt be right up against the front like we usually are. While standing there waiting, about 4 people we knew came up to us. One was this girl who was at the international ballroom Deftones show and the Hed(pe) show. She was there to see Spineshank. Anyway, she asked us if we had gone to SC and TN like we had planned to see the Deftones and we told her yes, and threw out that we got to hang with them at the after party. She seemed pretty shocked. Good thing I didnt tell her about meeting Brandon from Incubus. Thats like her favorite band. She wouldve been pissed. Also saw Jordan, one of Ashleys friends. He was there to see Nonpoint and Spineshank. He had been at the Hed(pe), Linkin Park, Nonpoint show as well. He really likes Nonpoint. And the other two people we saw were at the SC show. We also told them how we met the Deftones. They thought that was really cool of course.  Anyway, we were able to get close enough for Chimaira. They were even better than the previous night. The dedicated the song, Dead Inside, to minus which I thought was pretty cool. Melina had called Jordan that day and told him that we had extra tickets if he wanted to come. But minus were in the studio recording two new songs, so he wasnt able to make it. We saw two guys with Minus shirts on though. Anyway, Chimaira fucking tore it up! After they had played a few songs, Mark said, Well most of you probably dont know who we are. And someone yelled, We know who you are know motherfucker! that was so true. I could tell from the expressions and gasps around me how impressed everyone was with their performance.  I guess Mark saw us out in the audience and he let Melina scream into the mic during, dead inside and you know how much she loves to do that. Anyway, they got a very good response from the crowd, which I was happy about. And there were way more people there that night than before. The DJ, Chris tried stage diving twice, only to land on his ass. Hehe poor dude. Anyway, after they played, they were shaking everyones hands in the crowd. Jim saw me and smiled and said, hey we saw you last night. Its always good being remembered.  Anyway after they played I went to the back to see if I could find Andre. I asked Jim if he knew where he was. He called over Andy, from Boiler Room who got Andre for us. Andre apologized for not being able to get us passes. He said that Tommy Boy hadnt given them enough. He liked my sweatshirt though. (Soulfly) I got lots of compliments on it that night, but then again I always do.  I asked him if he could give me a phone number or an email address to keep in touch in case we ever wanted to see a show that hed be working with in the future. He said sure, that hed write down his info for me, when boiler room was playing. Melina and I went to back of the Masquerade where the merchandise was to see if any of the guys from Chimaira would come out and hang. Mark came out and of course he remembered us. A lot of people were going up to him so we waited until we could get a chance to really talk to him.  We were shocked that he actually remembered our names. He pointed to Melina and said, let me see, youre...Melina. then he pointed to me and said, and youre...Shaliza. Did I say it right? I was amazed. Those are pretty hard names to remember. And people ALWAYS screw my name up.  So I was very impressed that he managed to get them right. He said that the night before when he and the guys were driving, they asked him who he was talking to. For a second he went blank, and then our names just came to him. Anyway, Melina told him about why minus didnt show up. The night before Melina had told Mark that we were friends with minus. Minus and Chimaira did Farmclub.com on the same day, but their performances aired on different days. Mark told us how they had gotten lost in the afternoon, looking for the venue. He was really cool and nice. Munkigrip went on stage while we were talking to him. They sucked ass. They were trying to get the crowd all into them, but it wasnt really working. Minus shouldve been playing up there. We couldnt believe that Munkigrip went on AFTER Chimaira. But Mark said that it didnt really matter to them. Whether they go on first or last,  theyre gonna do their thing.  Other members of Chimaira were walking around and stuff. I talked to Chris for a split second and he remembered me from the ground zero show. He asked if they sounded better and I said yeah. Both shows were awesome but the masquerade show was better cause they were more into it. He said, that it was better because they felt better. Mark asked us the same thing, and so did Jim. A bigger crowd is always better. Anyway, he said it was great except for falling on his ass trying to stage dive. Reminds me of the first time we saw minus when Jordan fell on me, and the movie son in law with pauly shore. Boiler Room was OK. Better than the previous night because people seemed to like them there.
