| After Julian and Sean Lennon, Jacob Dylan and others, it is now time for Tal Bachman (30), son of Guess Who-star Randy Bachman, to follow in his fathers footsteps. At the age of eleven, Tal was the only one out of six children who went to live with his father, after his parents got divorced. He grew up around seventies' music, and he has learnt to play several instruments since he was a child. That probably explains his strong preference for classic songs: songs with harmony, verse and chorus. A preference that would cause him some problems in his later career. "I started writing in the early nineties, the glory days of grunge, and grunge was about the last thing I wanted to do...", he said. In a few years time, Bachman was refused by more than fifty record companies, so he packed his bags and left the country. He spent two years abroad (in Argentina), and then enrolled in a small university in Utah where he studied political philosophy. In the meantime, father Randy wouldn't stop yelling that he was wasting his time. He was right, but Tal would still have to have patience for a few years before getting a record deal. To pay the bills, he joined his father on tour as a drummer and kept working on his songwriting abilities. The big breakthrough in the US and Canada came with the single "She's So High (Above Me)", which got massive airplay, and Tal conquered Europe as Bryan Adams' support act on his European tour. He has also won several awards for his self-titled debut album: in March 2000, he received three Canadian Radio Music Awards (Best New Solo Artist - Rock, Pop Adult and contemporary hit radio) and two Juno Awards for Best New Solo Artist and Best Producer. In his private life, everything seems to be going well. He almost never answers questions about his personal life but simply says that he loves his family.
