Riverside High School Observatory

One unique feature of Riverside High School is its astronomical observatory program. Built with federal funding in 1976-1978, it offers supplementary studies for high school students and a public viewing program.

Located behind the high school building, it offers spectacular views of the moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, the Sun, and a variety of exotic objects not visible to the unaided eye.

The heart of the facility is the Celestron 14 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope complete with motorized tracking drive system.

The following photos (some taken at Riverside Observatory)show approximate views of what the objects look like when seen through the telescope. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image.
