CITATION:
"For heroic achievement while serving as a Scout/Sniper with Headquarters Company, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 4 August 1969, while conducting a reconnaissance patrol approximately 1200 meters from the Company Command Post, Lance Corporal Kraljev was observing a village which his company would search the following day. Alertly detecting two groups of North Vietnamese Army soldiers moving about the village emplacing booby traps and concealed firing devices, he aggressively delivered a heavy volume of fire on the hostile soldiers, killing two. As the hostile force began to return fire on his position, Lance Corporal Kraljev, realizing that his reconnaissance mission was compromised, unhesitatingly exposed himself to the enemy fire to move to a more advantageous position. Demonstrating exceptional professional ability and resourcefulness, he ably requested and directed accurate mortar fire on the enemy booby trap emplacements, causing numerous secondary explosions, killing one additional North Vietnamese Army soldier, and destroying the hostile firing devices. By his courage, resolute determination, and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of great personal danger, Lance Corporal Kraljev upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service."
The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized. |
