About us

Snegla-kennel at
lfarsfell
Snegla kennel is actually not a real
kennel jet. It is a dream that we have had for 3 years, to introduce and start
breeding Belgian Shepherds Malinois here in Iceland. And now we have imported
the first Malinois bitch from Denmark and will be importing the first stud dog
before the end of the year. We are a family of 7, Stefn and Silja, and our
kids: Sara Bjrk, Stefn Gunar and Sindri Pll that live in Akureyri from
Stefns first marriage, and Sldis Rs daughter of Silja and Skrnir Mni our
son. Stefn is finishing his M.Sc. studies in plant molecular biology from the
Royal Veterinary and
Agricultural University in Copenhagen and Silja
is studying psychology and behavioral science at Hskli slands in Reykjavk.
It all started out when we jointly gained
interest in training dogs, both being very much involved in training Icelandic
horses. The interest escalated when we read about clicker-training in books from
Karen Pryor and the books about dog behavior from Turid Rugaas. We train our
dogs by these principles and have seen how good a dog can be when brought
up in a loving environment that understands it's needs. Caya was integrated from
the first day into the family, goes everywhere with us, has her own space in the
house, and is never neglected. This is also our very goal that our dogs will be
beautiful, harmonious part of the family, keeping their natural habits like an
excellent working drive and loyalty to their owner.
Through her studies Silja has gained
interest in training assistance dogs and will be writing a thesis about that
matter. She is inscribed into the Etologisk institute in Denmark
where she will be studying towards becoming a Animal Behavior Therapists. This
fall Stefn started training towards a C-examine for a Rescue-dog with Caya at
Leitarhundar
Slysavarnaflagsins Landsbjargar .
The family lives in an old house from
1954 in a small suburb of Mosfellsbr. From here it s easy to take a good walk
up in the mountain, nature is very close.
