you stood so tall
majestically
a monument to patient growth
i adored your presence in my life
i could sense your heart
felt it gently touch mine
and you knew my secret self
i hugged you in the soft starry nights
you sheltered me from
sun and
rain and
snow and
the prying eyes of strangers
you made of my world a magical retreat
your aroma blessed my every inhalation
and i felt safe and warm there
in your shadow

then one early morning
workmen came
with their hearts in their wallets
they took you away
in pieces
stolen from the sun in the sky
and the tears in my eyes
we screamed together then
but no one was listening

and now our tiny eden
is a naked and barren wasteland
and neither the earth nor my arms can stop
reaching for you...
yet all we clasp now
is a memory of moments shared
in joyous silence
