The Story: How did *NSYNC get started? Well there's a number of versions of this story, but I think this is a reasonable synopsis - it all began with a guy named Chris. Chris Kirkpatrick that is. He thought he might like to start a singing group so he called this boy Justin. That would be Justin Timberlake. Chris knew Justin from some auditions the two had previously attended. Justin thought a group sounded like something he might want to be a part of and so they called a boy named Josh. That boy was Joshua Scott Chasez, better known as JC, a member of the Mickey Mouse Club which also featured Justin. As luck would have it, as they were forming their group, Chris, Justin, and JC ran into a young man named Joey Fatone, Jr. at a club. Chris knew Joey from when they both worked at Universal Studios, Florida. The boy could sing so he was recruited. That left the group in need of one more member, someone who could sing the low notes. The puzzle was completed with James Bass, known to fans as Lance. Lance was recommended through a vocal coach he shared with Justin. The five began singing together and when Justin's Mom described them as "in sync" and the boys discovered that the last letter of each of their first names spelled it out, *NSYNC was born and the rest, as they say, is history....
