Life & Location

Little is known about spectacled bears in comparison to the other bear species, because they live in very difficult to reach and secluded locations in northwestern South America. Since it is so difficult to obtain reliable information about them, many sources disagree about the details of their lives. Spectacled bears rarely come into contact with humans, and when they do it is cause for excitement. Therefore it is not surprising that they have alternately been cursed as destroyers of crops and cattle and worshiped as messenger-spirits to the gods.
