& Nubbie's Home Page
Just a little over 5 years ago, I discovered a
wonderful breed of dog. The Manchester Terrier!! This breed
is smart, active, stubborn, curious and hilarious at times. I purchased
my first puppy in the spring of 1999 and added a second young adult in
the spring of 2001. These guys grow on you and when you fall in love
with them, it is hard to stop with just one!
I have often been accused of treating my dogs like
children and what better way to show them off than by giving them their
own web site. So, welcome to Zipper and Nubbie's pages. I hope
you enjoy them and take the time to learn a bit about this wonderful breed.
This handsome fellow is Zipper, aka Fantasy's
Forever Night, FM. Zipper is almost 6 years old, weighs about 20
pounds and stands 16 inches at the shoulder. He, of course, thinks
he is the size of a Rottweiler and he attempts to give the impression that
he is fearless. He has true terrier drive, which he proves by killing
squirrels and mice as well as stuffed animals and tennis balls. Zipper
lives for fun, he loves walks in the neighborhood, playing at the dog park,
meeting other dogs, chasing his tennis balls and playing fetch with whatever
toy is handy. He is a very loyal and protective fellow and is a true
momma's boy, as he prefers to be with me, no matter what I am doing.
His greatest love is the game and sport of Flyball and that is where his
true talent shines.
This is my little girl Nubbie or Nubbins, aka
Trilogy's Special Edition. Nubbie came to live with us when she was
about 18 months old. She had some bad experiences with a previous
owner and she needed some tender loving care. Her breeder thought
I could supply that and Zipper and I welcomed her into our home.
Nubbie is a sweet girl, much more of a couch potato than the ever moving
Zipper. Although with time and TLC she has become very playful as
well. Nubbie is about 13 inches tall, weighs about 18 pounds and
just turned 5 years old. She has one feature you do not normally
find on a Manchester....no tail....Mother Nature made a boo-boo and Nubbie's
tail was defective, it had to be removed for her comfort.
It took some time for Zipper and Nubbie to truly
become best of friends. We had a couple of months of arguments, posturing
and stealing each other's things. But now, I think they would be
lost without each other. Zipper taught Nubbie to play with toys,
to play with his favorite tennis balls and watching them now is sometimes
like watching a comedy hour. This is a very playful and active breed
and having two to keep each other company really seems to help. They
are very people-orientated dogs and whatever I am doing, I always have
two helpers. They are alert watchdogs and always let me know when
something unusual is going on outside. And both are true snuggle
bunnies, happiest curled up on the couch next to you or curled up under
the covers in bed.
UPDATE---Zipper retired from flyball in the fall of 2003, partly because he had knee surgery for luxating patellas and mostly because I moved from WI to ND. Zipper and Nubbie are as active as ever, just the scenery has changed. They now go for walks on the ranch, chase ground squirrels and mice in the pastures and feed rooms and bark themselves silly at the horses, cows, geese, goats and ducks. They did well with the move and settled in like they have lived in the wide open spaces all their lives.
Come and explore the rest of Zipper and Nubbie's
site. We have more information on the breed and pedigrees for both dogs.
