(SMS Rallysport) - Good evening Stacy. Thanks for agreeing
to talk with us for a bit and give us some thoughts.
(Stacy Sterling) - Glad to be here!
(SR) - We'll start with the obvious question. How did you
get into ralying?
(SS) - Well, I have to give credit to Dave for that one. I remember one of
our first dates was working the Il Diavolo TSD - it was a blast!
(SR) - What do your family and friends think of you co-driving?
(SS) - For the most part, they think it's great - they were skeptical
at first, but I think they realize how much we enjoy racing and they are very supportive. I
have to admit it's fun to tell people that I haven't seen in five or six years about how my
sport of choice puts me in the right seat of a car flying down a gravel road at night in the woods
with only a few little squiggly lines and mileages to guide us.
(SR) - Have you ever considered driving?
(SS) - Not until Headwaters 2004.
(SR) - What happened?
(SS) - Well, one of the occupational hazards of being a co-driver
is the occasional bouts of motion sickness. For some reason it was worse than it had ever been,
to the point where I was telling Dave we're going to have to call it a night. That was not the
way that either of us wanted to start the season so what it came down to was either I drive or we
DNF. With a few quick lessons from Mark Utecht and the support of nearly everone at service, and
especially our Crew, we were off and running!
(SR) - I hear from Dave that this was one of your first times
driving a manual - is that right?
(SS) - (laughs) Yeah, I admit I am not proficient at driving a
manual - but I am getting better! Dave was a great co-driver and was great at giving me advice
from the right seat. I think we were both very pleased that we finished the rally and I think it really
shows what an incredible team we have.
(SR) - What does the future hold for SMS Rallysport?
(SS) - I think we have the potential to win a ClubRally National
Champoinship within the next 5 years. We keep improving at each event, Dave is driving faster,
I feel my co-driving skills are improving as well, and I think we've grown as a team over the
last two years. I am very excited to see where we go from here.
(SR) - We are too. Thank you again for taking the time to talk to us - enjoy the
