Replacing your wick:

This procedure is just a guide line for rewicking your lamp, each make may be a little different in procedure but this is here to give you a general idea on how it is done!
First remove the burner from the lamp, on some makes it might be easier if you remove the gallery also. Then I insert my finger between the wick and it's cage and collapse the wick. Pull out the wick! It's a good idea to save the old wick even if it's short! You can always cut the old wick in two pieces and sew it onto the bottom of another wick thats in better shape! This is what people did around the turn of the century to get the most out of the wicks as they could!
To install the new wick, turn the wick cage all the way down. Fold the wick in half lenghtwise an insert it into the wick cage. Put the top of the wick 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the top of the wick tube, then insert your finger into the wick and unfold it to the contours of the cage!  The idea of having your wick 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the top of the wick tube just makes it easier to blow out the lamp when your finished with it. Reinstall your burner on the lamp and enjoy!!!
