Cleaning your Lamp:

Most of the time when you aquire an old center draught lamp it is in dire need of cleaning! Years of sitting in dark places can take it's toll on the lamp! Many times you can't get the burner to unscrew or the fill cap off! What I do when I get a lamp that won't come apart is give it a good soaking! My lamp bath consists of a mop bucket filled with hot water and 2 scoops of Oxy-Clean. I turn the lamp  upside down in the bucket and let it sit for about an hour. This seems to work well on loosening up the old kerosene residue and unsticking the parts. You may have to repeat this procedure a few more times on really dirty lamps!
Once I have it apart I resoak all the parts in a new mixture of Oxy-Clean, then I towel dry everything when done!
To get the nickel to shine up, I use Easy-Off oven cleaner (yellow top) wear gloves when using this!! I spray all parts and let sit for about ten minutes. Then I respray the parts and take a soft bristle tooth brush and scrub the finnish! You can repeat this as many times as you need to get it really clean! Once cleaned I wash all parts in soapy water then rince and let dry!
The last thing I do is give it a good polish job with silver polish! These are the procedure's I use and they work well for me with no damage to the lamp!
I realize that there are other methods of cleaning lamps, but this is the way I do mine and it works. I am always game to try new Ideas or methods! So if you have any just let me know!
