Recover It !

This section will give details on how to do jkgamer's DOC recovery hack.  Kudos to jkgamer for pioneering this hack.  This modification will allow you to disable the disk-on-chip (DOC).  This is a needed to recover an ePods from a corrupted shell hack.  Information on the shell hacks can be found at Randy's Hack your ePods site.

The procedure below is for a rev 1.1 daughterboard.  It is likely that the procedure for a rev 1.0 daughterboards will be very similar.  I have not tried this on a rev 1.0 daughterboard yet, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

1)  Back up any data that you want to keep.  Follow the directions for opening the case up to step 15.

2)  Remove the black plastic cover from the daughterboard.

3)  Solder the ends of the wires to pins 32 and 22 of the DOC.

4)  Mount the switch next to the battery connector.  I use hot melt glue for this.  It seems to hold the switch in place and is removable if the switch fails.  Be sure to have the battery plug in the connector if you mount the switch as shown.  Otherwise, glue will ooze into the battery socket.

5)  Solder the other ends of the wire to the switch.  This picture shows a suggested routing for the wire.  You probably will want to look at the enlarged image for this one <g>.

6)  Add some more hot melt glue to insulate the solder joints and strengthen the switch mounting.

7)  Test the modification by pushing the switch IN and do a hard reset.  The ePods will boot as normal until just after you set the time and date.  If the modification is successful you will see a blue screen with a gray bar across the top.  Enter alt-tab and have a look around.  Pull the switch OUT and do another hard reset to return to normal.

8)  Replace the black plastic cover on the daughterboard and reassemble the ePods.

Now all you have to do to recover from a corrupted shell hack is open the battery cover, change the switch and follow jkgamer's instructions!
