| The Definition of Smog has been modified over time: * The very first definition of the term was created by Dr. Harold deVoeux, in 1911: smog is a combination of coal smoke and fog, where particles of smoke may serve as the locations on which water vapor condenses (resembles todays definition of an industrial smog). * After 1911 and before late 1940s, the term smog was used to designate any type of polluted atmosphere. * In later 1940s and early 1950s a unique type of polluted atmosphere has been recognized and named - photochemical smog. |
