Smitty's Shih Tzu Rescue
Application Process

Adoption applicants are carefully screened.  This process begins with an adoption application.  Personal or phone interview, personal and vet reference checks and finally a home visit follow this.  Only after completing all these steps is a decision made about placing a dog in a potential home.  It is at this point that the potential adopter meets the dog.  We reserve the right not to approve an adoption if our criteria is not met.

All dogs are microchipped and the microchip remains in our name.  An adoption contract is used and adopters are asked to pay an adoption fee to offset vet costs associated with the dog.
Adoption Contract
Once a match is found for a dog, the potential family is  allowed to meet the dog.  Our placement contract is very explicit in the type of care we expect the adoptive family to provide for the dog.
Post-Adoption Support
To make every adoption a successful one, we remain available for training and behavioural advice.  Included with the adoption contract is information about training exercises, integrating the dog into its new household and a check in schedule to let us know how the dog is doing.
Financial Donations
We LOVE financial donations to help offset vet costs (we prefer that you do not send cash).  Please contact us for information on how to send a donation.
